Question for a vacation home owners

Sorry to post again but I had a quick question for vacation home owners. Our friend’s vacation house was broken into. Nothing of value was taken (b/c it is a vacation home so nothing valuable is kept there) but it still leaves that uneasy feeling. His house is a few houses away from ours. How do we prevent that from happening to our house? I understand basic things like an alarm but we’re not there most of the time. I was thinking of motion activated dog barks Do they even sell those??
