InactiveI am new to this forum and I am so happy that I found it. I thank everyone for sharing their experiences as my husband and I have been through such a difficult time with this the last 3 months when the reflux started and it’s been a long process.
Where we are at today is we got a prescription for Prevacid. We were giving our 4 month son zantac – 3 x a day, .08 (after 2 increases); We switched fomulas 4 times and are now on Similac Alimentum. We want to make sure we are doing the best thing for the baby and have learned the hard way that even though we aren’t Dr.’s, doing our own research over just doing what the Dr.’s say is what must be done.
Does anyone have thoughts/experience on whether to discontinue the Zantac altogether now that we are starting Prevacid? That is what the GI told us to do. Does anyone agree/disagree?
Also, the Prevacid amount prescribed is 2ml (6mg). Can anyone share thoughts about this dosage amount? How it relates to their experience? Thoughts on when I should expect to follow up with GI on increasing if needed. My son weighs 16 pounds.
Thank you again in advance for your help.

Keymasterwelcome! I have a LOT to say, & most of it is here, in a link called Groupie Intro
this is looong, but please read/scroll/skim through it and refer back to it often, as it TRULY will help you
.there is info about WHY a baby might get reflux, about reflux and how it might be related to diet/allergies/intolerances (these are to PROTEINS in breastmilk or formula, proteins such as milk and/or soy)…there is a link to finding a ped GIthere is a link called ‘Prevacid 101’ – read this as it tells about zantac dosing, too and also prilosec…basically, there is a LOT of info to help you & we’re here, too!hang in there & so glad you found us!To answer you (this is in Groupie 101): YES! keep the baby on zantac, too, making sure to seperate the dose by 4hrs from the prevacid! do this for a good two weeks, as this is how long it can take for you to see the results of the Prevacid IF the prevacid is the proper dose & form!make sure to read Prevacid 101 (which also refers to) &so glad you found us!~lauraNovember 14, 2010 at 9:40 pm #67284Anonymous
InactiveThe dose of prevacid you gave sounds like a compound, is that what you have? If it is, please read the prevacid 101 and see if the doctor will give you the solutabs which are much easier and in my opinion better to use. And laura has given you some good links to read through.
