1. Zegerid seems to be highly favored because of the lack of waiting/timing. Is there any reason NOT to switch to Zegerid OTC? We’re currently using Prilosec and Zantac that are Rx in liquid suspension. If we switch to Zegerid we should continue the Zantac, correct?
2. Mylanta Cherry Supreme is off the market, correct? I’m having a hard time finding something generic that is labeled a “generic MCS”. Which ingredients am I looking for exactly? I saw someone mention that CVS had a generic available, but there are no CVS stores within several hundred miles of here. I found a “compare to Maalox” med, but this is not what I need, right? It has Aluminum hydroxide, Magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. Someone mentioned looking for a product without Aluminum. What is the reason for this? Is there somewhere online that I can order the generic MCS if I can’t find it locally?

you can TELL dr to write RX a PARTICULAR WAY and then TELL pharmacist to do it that way & then the liquid is stable and you can give it at any time…
Reasons not to switch to zegerid OTC? well, you have to act like a mad scientist and make the zegerid into a liquid yourself –
YES, always continue with the zantac until you KNOW the PPI is doing it’s thing. otherwise, it’s as if your baby isn’t on any meds
2) ALUMINUM is what you do NOT want. no one seems comfortable giving a baby a metal such as aluminum
you can look online to find store brand equivalents.
here, I did a google search:
Try: rite-aid,
cvs brand: http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/CVS-Antacid-Liquid-Supreme-Cherry?skuId=191659
walmart, target, Bartell Drug (West coast), Dollar General, brand names: Geri-Care & Geri-Lanta Supreme, meijer, etc- just look for one that does not list aluminum in the ingredients. you can give 1ml up to 5 times a day- it’s safe, even for newborns. if you see loose stools back off.

April 11, 2013 at 9:53 pm #72026AnonymousInactiveI’ve been all over town and no one (walmart, walgreens, Rite-aid, grocery stores) carries any liquid antacid without aluminum, so for now I’m going to have to use one with. Is that terrible?
What is the dosing for the Zegerid/Prilosec/MCS combo? I’ve got the formula to mix up, but haven’t figured out what the dose is per weight. I saw a mention of a minimum dose? My little guy is 13lbs and 10 weeks old (was 10lbs at birth).
