I have a very random question. While I was pregnant, I had severe nausea and took Zofran until the day that I delivered Jackson. I have been asked my numerous family members whether I think that had any impact on Jackson’s reflux issues. I am really trying to not blame myself for this whole thing, but I cannot help but wonder what effects the drug had on him. The effects of zofran on babies is not well established when taken by a pregnant woman. When I took it, I was throwing up every day and I was trying to work as a trial lawyer. So, it was necessary.

Did any of you take medication like Zofran? I know that there is absolutely NO scientific data to support this theory! It is not even a theory- just curious. I am also not trying to make anyone wonder what they did to cause reflux. As mothers, we have enough guilt, right?

I don’t know anyone that took that particular drug, but I do know that there have been numerous posts trying to determine if there was any common link among moms on the site and none was ever determined. Sometimes the reflux is caused by prematurity or other birth-related issues. Sometimes it’s caused by just a slightly immature LES. Sometimes it’s allergy related. Or it’s caused by genetics.

So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s hard enough to deal with a reflux baby. Don’t beat yourself up with anything that may have caused the reflux in your child. The “maybes” will make you crazy and it’s highly unlikely that you did anything to cause it!

there have been many posts trying to ‘figure’ it out…

if it makes you feel any better, my friend took zofran w/ both her pregnancies and neither child had reflux..

Another thing to remember is that if you didn’t take the medication your baby could have been sick for that reason. I know dehydration is hard on a pregnacy. I think you did what was best for the both of you don’t beat yourself up like the others said.

I took Zofran wile I was pregnant with my 4 year old, He didn’t have any reflux.
