I am not sure if this is the correct place to pose this question but hopefully someone can give me some advice. My son Grayson is on an apnea monitor and has been since he was 1 month old..he is now a little over 4 months old. We have requested time after time for the medical equipment company to bring us hypoallergenic leeds as he gets the worse rash from them. I use paper tape to secure them as they always come off without it.The paper tape bothers him a bit but not near as much as regular tape… but the leeds…. they are very very bad so I am torn between him wearing them and taking them off so his poor little chest will get well. Please Help!
March 28, 2006 at 11:11 pm #4868hellbenntKeymastermaybe he needs a higher dose of PPI and then the apnea/reflux would get better? jonah was on an apnea monitor but only for 3 months (from nicu/birth to end of 3 months)…has he had any ‘true’ apnea spells, ie: when can he get off of the monitor?
towards the end of the 3 months we kinda just stopped on our own- the majority of the alarms were false alarms- when we brought jonah ot the dr’s office & they ‘read ‘ the charts from the monitor, all was good…
just wondering…
in the meantime, if you want/need something from the meidcal equipment company, I’d go right to the top! https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2607&a mp;KW=top%21

It attached to her foot, so the way that it hooked up was different. She had the same issue with the adhesive. We ended up using the “no-stick” tape. It’s the kind that doesn’t have any adhesive, it just sticks to itself. We just wrapped it around her foot a few times, and it would hold the leads in place without actually sticking to anything. I don’t know if it would help in your situation because it’s probably too difficult (and cost-prohibitive) to wrap that kind of tape around his body and hold the leads on, but I thought I’d share just in case it might help.

But…after looking at the downloads we were sent back home with it. We have dr appts next month and maybe we will come home without the monitor but if the amount of times it has went off is any indication I seriously doubt it. I ask my ped gi last time about Zegerid and he said NO.. I then ask about increasing his Prevacid dose and he said that the next time we would try and set up another PH probe while he is taking his medicine to see if It peaks and if so when so we can know what to do.I am telling him this time that I dont need a PH study… I SEE it when it happens and I HEAR him cry out in pain and that If he can’t get us some help then I am going somewhere else. He has been very good but we are so close with Grayson and I dont want to go backward. The monitor will be hard to give up in some ways as it becomes sort of a “security blanket” and on the other hand it will be good to see his little chest with no blisters on it. As for the tape…that doesnt bother him near as much as the gel from the leeds do.
March 29, 2006 at 9:51 am #4885AnonymousInactiveHe is only on Prevacid once a day? If the doctor won’t raise the dose,
can you at least split it so it’s twice a day? The dose would still be
too low but at least he’d have a more steady source – babies metabolize
PPIs very quickly and once a day is almost never enough.I am also VERY sensitive to bandages and tape and get blisters and swollen from them – poor Grayson…
March 29, 2006 at 10:08 am #4888AnonymousInactiveI totally understand the love/hate relationship with the monitor. Kaelyn was on hers until she was 6 months old. We had to drag it back and forth from day care every day. Her feet were torn up from the leads and tape. We were ready to get rid of it for so many reasons. Yet, it was really hard because it had given us such a sense of security. When we finally stopped using it, we hadn’t had an alarm in over a month, so we felt fairly safe letting it go.
March 29, 2006 at 10:19 am #4889AnonymousInactiveI am hoping that if I can ever get his Med increased then we will not need it any longer either.I will just have to make myself get use to him not having it on. The car will really scare me…and sleeping also even though he still sleeps on me in the recliner. I have tried everthing I know to do to get him in his bed but he is having none of that.
March 29, 2006 at 10:46 am #4891AnonymousInactiveI noticed that you said that you split the dosage for the prevacid for you child because once a day was not enough. I am noticing with my son that he takes prevacid 15 mg once a day usually in the evenings, but every evening about 4pm until he goes to bed, he is usually fussing and squirming alot because his belly hurts and he spits up alot during that time, the rest of the day is usually much better. What would you suggest for me? splitting his dosage or asking the doc for more? thanks, stars
March 29, 2006 at 10:54 am #4894AnonymousInactiveTry to split the dose, on marci kids there is lots of research about how babies metabolize the ppi’s 3x faster than adults. So, your baby is not getting the acid block for the whole day. Also, alot of mom’s play around with the dose themselves alittle. If the doc. doesn’t listen, find a new one. Try to post for mom’s in your area, find out who their docs are. That’s how we found our gi, and we love him!
When you start splitting the dose, it may take a few days to see a difference.
Grayson’s mommy, we had the belt with the leads stuck on it, didn’t work that well all the time but its worth a try! I hated the monitor, it always scared me so bad, but worth the peice of mind!
March 29, 2006 at 7:50 pm #4946hellbenntKeymastergraysons mom: we didn’t have gel w/ the leeds, they had their own adhesive sticker, but that wasn’t enough, so we used the paper tape/surgical tape and yes poor jonah’s skin was raw, it was so sad I hope grayson can get his meds increased so he can get off of the monitor soon!
stars: to find a ped Gi: Looking for GI: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=660
until you can get the PPi increased, you can add zantac, too, just make sure it’s given at least 2 (or more) hrs seperate from the prevacid…
