Yesterday & today Evan has had red, puffy eyes…w/ a little goop. Neither is super noticable & I know newborns have some eye goop, but just wondering if I should worry/call ped.
I started TED yesterday & he’s on Prevacid solutabs (for 5-6 days now).June 30, 2008 at 12:41 pm #53187AnonymousInactiveWhat color is the goop? If yellow/green goop and the under eyelid is red, then it could be a blocked tear duct or conjunctivitis (pink eye).
You could call the ped and just describe the symptoms to the nurse. I know a lot of times they want to see the baby and charge a copay for it to be “nothing”, but perhaps they can tell by how you describe it. Landen got this a couple times when he was a younger baby and I was on maternity leave and my older one was still doing part time daycare. If it is pink eye, you’ll want to wash ALL blankies, crib sheets and clothes that he’s worn since having it- even little plush bears & lovies that may have rubbed on his eye somehow as it is really contagious.jilly782008-06-30 12:42:57
June 30, 2008 at 12:47 pm #53188AnonymousInactiveThe goop is yellow & it’s dried on his eyelashes. I was able to pick some of it off once it dried – & it didn’t seem to bother him, but he was also nursing @ the time.
My 2yo is also home w/ us (no daycare or anything) but we do a lot of outside things… therapy 2x/wk (& there are plenty of germs there!) & I take him to a Mommy & Me thing 1x/wk. The baby goes to therapy w/ us usually but not to the Mommy & Me thing. The 2yo isn’t showing any symptoms of pink eye though.I did think of pink eye… I sure hope my little guy’s not having to deal w/ THAT too -ugh!Thanks for responding.erinntx2008-06-30 12:49:13

If you want you might try some saline eye drops, this seemed to help a little, specially when it came time to wipe the goop off of their eyes.
Hope this helpsstcwatt2008-06-30 13:31:05

June 30, 2008 at 3:31 pm #53213AnonymousInactiveMy ds had this forvever. My sons was from a clogged tear duct. Our 1st doc (gen prac) just told us to put warm washcloths on it and rub the inside corners of his eye. Well, he still had it when we changed docs (at one month). Our new ped gave us cream to put in his eyes and it did the trick. If he had pink eye, you would know it. His eyes would be bright pink (almost red) and his eyes would be sooo goopy, they would be mostly stuck shut. Pink eye is horrible!
I have heard an old wives tale that breast milk works well for eye infections in infants, but I have never tried this.kdub2008-06-30 15:32:43

June 30, 2008 at 10:16 pm #53249AnonymousInactiveThanks ladies… I don’t think it’s pink eye. As dh & I were bathing Evan tonight (& dh wiped his eye goop out) we both remembered doing it w/ Brodie for a long time (wiping the eye goop during bath). If it’s still gooping @ his 2mth appt (in a few wks) we’ll obviously bring it up…or if it gets worse I’ll take him in.
Thanks again! -
