HELP! Lo is 10 weeks old. He is on 15mg Prevacid solu tab a day. He was on several formulas including soy but had blood in his stools. We switched him from gentle ease to alimentum a week ago. His reflux the past two days has been flaring. He is fighting the bottles now. He has been on Prevacid for a month now and was doing well before the switch to alimentum. Is it a flare? If so how long will it last and what can I do to help him through it? Is it a formula fail? His poops are good, face is clear, he is sleeping better, overall seems to be doing better except the reflux.
Please help… I don’t know what to do.
September 5, 2013 at 2:45 pm #72605hellbenntKeymasterPosting Frm ph- making this brief:
Check weight/dosing
Give Prevacid 3 x a day
On empty stomach, followed by a meal 30 min later
(Or longer!)
When did you switch?
Make switch slowly – oz by oz if you must
September 9, 2013 at 11:03 am #72608hellbenntKeymasterhow’s it going?
September 10, 2013 at 8:53 pm #72612AnonymousInactiveUgh it’s horrible. Per GI at Mondays appointment We have moved to elecare, Prevacid compound 2.5 ml twice a day and Zantac midday. We mixed it with alimentum the first two days and went full elecare the last 24 hrs. He hasn’t taken a full bottle in a week now and I’m at my wits end. His bottle refusal last week prompted us to go to the pediatrician which we found he still had blood in his stools on alimentum. I have spent all day trying to get formula in him. He starts to suck and pulls off the nipple. No arching but he started to cry this evening after an ounce. I go back to work next week. I am lucky to get 18ozs in him a day. We have to do a weight check Friday is he hasn’t upped his intake by then. With the way it’s looking we will be doing a weight check.

PLEASE calculate what dose he could be getting! as always, I’m rushing around but wanted to reply to you!Prevacid 101 has a dosing chart. you’re giving me measurements in mililiters but I have no idea how many miligrams of medicine it is –PLEASE read Prevacid 101 and see about liquid prevacid, called ‘compound’ and the rest of itPLEASE ask about a medicine called carafatehang in there!September 12, 2013 at 3:58 pm #72617AnonymousInactiveTeething often causes nasty flares. Even if you can’t feel or see a tooth, one might be trying to come through?
Have you tried giving your little one probiotics and digestive enzymes?
Has your little one been having any foods high in dairy?
September 12, 2013 at 4:14 pm #72618AnonymousInactiveHe is strictly formula. He is on Elecare for MPSI and is 11 weeks old. The medicine bottle says 2.5 ml by mouth twice daily lansoprazole 3mg/ml. I did have him in the solu tabs but the GI wanted to move to the compound to dose him accurately twice a day. #75 compound each. He doesn’t cry at the bottle now except the last bottle he pulls off the nipple and pushes it out with his tongue. I don’t know what to do. I have two older boys who weren’t this sever and I feel that I can’t even give them attention. I’m always trying to get this baby to drink. It takes over an hour to get 2 to 3 ounces in him. Ugh

September 12, 2013 at 4:34 pm #72620AnonymousInactiveI’m having a hard time reading through the Prevacid 101. There’s a bunch of spam. He also gets Zantac mid day too.
September 16, 2013 at 5:06 pm #72622AnonymousInactiveProbiotics are the good live bacteria that coat and protect our entire digestive tract. Most all babies that have reflux are low on probiotics.
Digestive enzymes are what are vitally necessary to properly break down our food. Many babies that have a hard time digesting or tolerating certain foods, have a hard time making enough enzymes.
A supplement of digestive enzymes and probiotics help my children tremendously. You can read some more detailed info about how they can help here. https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=16038
