InactiveOkay I’m a little aggrivated here. I was on another forum and a lady was talking about a baby being put on reglan that wasn’t in pain. She didn’t understand it and neither do I. I was saying that I understand if the baby can’t keep anything down. A couple of the other moms were saying well if the baby is not in pain, but just spitting it can help. So, I tryed to reply back and ask what they meant by that. Why would you give a baby something known to have bad side effects if it was only for the spitting up? I also said how I don’t get that a doc will prescribe reglan knowing the side effects and yet won’t increase the dose of the ppi. So, I get done with my reply and what do you know the post has been closed. HOW CONVIENT!
So, am I wrong about this? Isn’t reglan for dge? Isn’t it basically for babies that are just not gaining weight due to loosing most of their food?By the way, I love love love this forum. I love the ladies on here and I love the layout and how easy it is to get around. I also love the fact that they allow us to say our differences and not close the post. Not sure if that is what happened on the other forum, but in any case, I really love this forum. Good job to however created it and good job to the moderators.

Inactivesee thats exactly what i was talking about Shelby. how convenient.
i agree there are alternatives to reglan, but a lot of the time a DGE drug isnt necessary, especially when they havent tested for DGE.

InactiveI can’t speak for the moms on the other board but I certainly would not use Reglan unless there was a weight gain issue. Myles threw up day and night, many times entire feedings, but he was pain free and thriving so his doctor felt that motility agents were not needed. I wholeheartedly agree with her.

InactiveThanks ladies. I in no way was bashing the other moms. Not that either of you were saying that. I just felt I needed to say it. I was just hoping to understand where they were coming from. I don’t understand why it was closed. I understand that we all have diff views. I understand that spitting up can drive you crazy. Like you said Christine with my oldest Luke he spit up most of what he ate, but once I learned what the side effects of reglan were I pitched it. I just don’t get these drs. why will they prescribe reglan knowing the side effects and yet not increase the ppi dose? It just makes no sense to me. Thanks again ladies.

InactiveWe did reglan for Alex for several months because she wasn’t gaining weight, was spitting a lot, and was uncomfortable. It seemed to help her and we kept the dose as low as possible to give her the benefits with the lowest chance for side effects. However, if weight gain and discomfort weren’t an issue than I definitely wouldn’t have used it. I worried about the side effects the whole time that she was taking it.
I love the way this forum runs as well.

InactiveI don’t get it either why they are so quick to increase the reglan and not the prevacid. What are some of the side effects to reglan?

reglan crosses the blood-brain barrier. it can cause seizures and other neurological problems. brain damage has also been reported.

InactiveI know Reglan has been a very controversial drug, and with Dylan’s DGE, if someone had offered it, I would have considered trying it, but our doctors didn’t feel it was necessary as we slowly but surely kept Dylan’s weight up.
I do have to say, however, that three weeks ago, I was admitted to the ER for an awful stomach virus. I couldn’t keep anything down and I felt like I was going to die. They gave me reglan and I just about wanted to jump out of my skin. They gave me benadryl to help the side effects and they were gone immediately. I did not vomit or get sick to my stomach at all after the dose though.
So, I can honestly say, I have never felt better after being so sick to my stomach so quickly with anything before. I felt so much better, but could see the side effects first hand. I guess only some people, not all have the effects either, so if you are not experienceing side effects and it helps, then so be it.
I think if the baby is throwing up/spitting up a lot from nausea, then it can help, but it is a personal choice to weight the benefits/risks.
On the other note about posts being closed, I think it is done only when things are really controversial and heated. I think the forums are here for help and information, but when something becomes an angry exchange, it is not helpful to anyone, especially new members who are visiting for the first time. I remember when I was at the beginning of reflux with my first Gerdling, and I was feeling like such a failure as a mother and so helpless. I was sleep deprived and didn’t know if I could make it through another day. I think that the closed topics, etc… is to make sure that it is a positive place to come to when people are at their lowest with this reflux stuff.
This place has been a life saver for me and I hope it is the same for all others that are here and unfortunately need to come here in the future…..

InactiveThe funny thing is, it wasn’t even getting heated. At least not that I could see. I was being very friendly in everything I was saying and felt like everyone else was too.
