InactiveDoes anyone know when to stop taking it? My milk is back in so I can nurse Grant but I don’t want to get to the point of OAL again which caused all the original probs. How do I know when to stop with all the Reglan, etc.? Is my supply now Reglan induced or am I at the point I am going to stay at? Thanks for your help. 😉

Keymasterno clue…
I know with the babies you have to wean slowly off of it, so maybe try that strategy & see what happens? (just read on kellymom that you need to taper off of it also- still looking to answer your question though)
from here http://parenting.ivillage.com/newborn/nbreastfeed/0,,3wvx,00 .html: “Dosage should be tapered off over the last few days of treatment, as milk supply may drop when the drug is discontinued. Best wishes for an abundant milk supply!”
email Dr. N again?

InactiveThey should have given you dosing instructions that wean you on than wean you off so that you are on it a total of 2 weeks. What were your instructions?

InactiveThat’s what concerns me. The dose was 4 pills a day 30 mins before meals. There were 28 pills in the bottle. No weaning on or off like you said. The OB nurse prescribed it as the OB was off the day I called in. She said this was the way it was handled, but I am wondering if there is a mistake. I can’t get answers until Monday though. I may email Dr. N. again but his rec was really for the Domperidone not for Reglan which he didn’t recommend. I’ll let you guys know what he says.

go to the bottom where it says supplements, the dosing is there. Also, at the askdrsears site it says that reglan is the most common med used to increase breast milk, so it is very common.

InactiveThank you Kristen! I’ll just stay on 3 for a while and then taper down when I hit the last three pills. Very helpful information!

InactiveAmanda,
When I took it neither of my OBs suggested weaning on or off but it certainly makes sense to wean off of it. Glad it’s working for you!

InactiveDr. Newman said you need to taper down Reglan just like you would Domperidone. He also said you could get Domperidone in the US via asklenore.com and from some compounding pharmacies. I saw a drop in the supply from just trying to go from 4 pills to 2.
Finally got my OB’s nurse on the phone this afternoon. My OB said that re-establishing your supply on reglan is different than boosting your supply. They recommend 4 steady pills a day for a month to re-establish.

Forgot to mention that the pharmacy did make an error on my script. Not 30 pills but 30 days of 4 pills a day and she added some to wean off with after that. Wow, these pharamacies!

InactiveGot a quick question for those who have used Reglan before to help boost or restart lactation. Does it make you have blurry vision and constant exhaustion? I know I was less tired before I began taking it and barely have the energy now to lift Grant who is only 12 lbs. Do I need to take it the full month if Grant appears to be satisfied and eating every 3 hours and pooping, etc. showing he’s getting enough? This stuff makes me feel like I am in a fog. Thanks for the advice. 😉

InactiveI don’t know about being tired or the vision problem. I was told that the only side effect to be concerned about is if there is a history of depression. Also, a month sounds too long, I was only on it for 10 days
