Resistance from Ped to Specialist?

Hi, everyone,

After joining these forums yesterday and struggling through treatment with my pediatrician’s office for my 10 week old son, I learned the importance of going to a specialist.

I found two an hour away (closest ones to us) and called the ped’s office for a recommendation of one or the other. The PA explained that she did not even think the specialist would see us yet, because they ‘want you to try a course of action with your pediatrician first’. We’ve been struggling through this with our ped’s office getting conflicting advice for over a month…

My better half called one of the specialists and got an appt. for the 23rd. I am ecstatic! I cannot go because I’m out of leave at work, but I faxed a history I prepared as well as my questions for inclusion in his file.

Has anyone else met with resistance by their pediatrician when they sought specialty care for their little one for this condition?

unfortunately, many peds have rather large egos and think they can solve all problems…also some might want your money (insurance money) and don’t want to see you leave. erg.
