InactiveOk, so I went against my gut and started rice cereal with my dd–shes 5 months old and showing signsof interest, and my dr suggested it and of course I was hoping (even though there is no proof) that it would help her sleep through the night (still waiting in vain for that day)
She has had 2 days of Earths best rice cereal mixed with neocate. She had excema behind her ears prior to introing but now she has a few more patches, her cradle cap is back, and she is all splotchy again like she was on nutramigen….am I crazy….its rice cereal, with no milk, no soy, we arent doing oatmeal cuz of gluten issues in the family…is it a coincedence or can there be a connection….she also oddly has explosive diapers again, but no mucous…argh….Im stopping it as of now, but I am also using hydrocortisone on the excema to give her some relief….
anyone else had this? Should I just try sweet potato like I wanted (dr told me grain would be best, why do I listen to him…)
sorry to ramble…she was doing good for awhile….
Thanks for any info
oh and she loved eating so I think she thinks shes ready, but maybe her body isnt??

InactiveIt is hard to say if it is related or not. Sometimes the weather is cold and it causes eczema to get bad. I guess the only way to know is to stop and let it clear up then try it again to see if it gets bad again.

Inactivesweet potatoes are pretty safe i would think. but i would probably stop the rice as well, and than wait for it to clear up and than start it again and see what happens!

Keymasteryour baby is a little young to be starting solids…? she’s on neocate which indicates to me she had problems with some sort of proteins (milk and/or soy)?
personally, I’d hold off a month or even longer…

InactiveYeah part of me wants to wait too, but she is so eager to eat….but I think I will wait, Im seeing her ped GI tomorrow and will discuss all this (we have alot of food issues in the family, so I probably should wait….my ped suggested it though since she is eating more and more and shows all the other signs, mouthing while we eat, leaning forward trying to get my food when on my lap, sitting up unsupported, can turn away, doubled birthweight…)
Excema runs in the family too thats why I am at a loss….thanks for the replies though

InactiveWell just to update, my ped GI basically told me with her issues and her family history that we should not be feeding any solids till AT LEAST 6months, but closer to 9 months, but to not wait beyond that age…so that is what we shall be doing….
Thanks for the help though…

Awww….poor sweetie. It’s not so bad when they are not interested, but it must be sad to see her wanting to eat and not being able to give her any.Can she have cereal? Or nothing but neocate?

InactiveThe ped said no solids just neocate …yeah its sad..its so cute to see her be so interested, but hey if I save her some pain or discomfort its all worth it in the end…shes got plenty of years to eat in the future

InactiveSo true! There’s nothing worse than seeing your baby in pain. And thank God there is something like Neocate for these poor babies.
