InactiveWe have had a really tough time for the past week +. Our little buddy, now 7 months old, was doing great over Christmas break. He was eating pretty good and starting solids. Then we introduced bananas and he LOVED them and finally started gaining some much needed weight.
A few days later though he went back to not wanting to eat. He started eating less and less at the breast and started not wanting solids at all. It has seemed to have gotten progressively worse. I can see he has 6 top teeth dropping down, though not quite near to coming through yet. So I know teething is an issue and I thought that was the main issue. But now I have been also wondering if it is the bananas. I noticed he started nursing a bit funny the day after I started the bananas, but it wasn’t for a few more days that things got really bad. I have thought of cutting them out, but it has been our most successful way of getting solids in and the solids, though tough to get in him, have really helped keep his calories up.I am especially worried b/c all of the docs/specialists we have seen have really pushed us to get on solids so he can gain more weight. He was hovering around the 3rd percentile and is now around the 5th. I am at such a loss and just don’t know what to do! For the first time since he has struggled with eating I am having to nurse him as he falls asleep – he won’t eat much otherwise and won’t take liquids from a cup or bottle. Now he is also struggling more with sleep. He is burping a ton too which he wasn’t doing at all a couple of weeks ago.
We are on Zegerid – 10mL 3x/day as well as zantac. So no more can be done on the medication end. I have been really struggling with this bad stretch and having a hard time staying encouraged. The GI we saw last month didn’t seem to have much help to offer. He said we were doing all the right things and that we should get an upper GI x-ray with our pediatrition if things got worse. So I’ll ask my dr. about that when I see him this Thursday, but I wonder if that will really help since a lot of the time he is doing so well.January 6, 2010 at 9:18 pm #65383hellbennt
Keymasterif you think it’s the bananas, then I’d stop them…sounds odd, but they are related to latex (google it? I’m pretty sure…)
I hear you about the weight- my son wouldn’t take solids and he was my non refluxer!
for breastfed babies, try the baby-led solid approach

InactiveI am sorry to hear that you were having a rough time… Just as a heads up, our little guy had some intolerances to certain foods that would trigger his reflux. He would projectile vomit and wake up at night. His are sweet potatoes and carrots.
I would stop the bananas, for at least a few days and see if it gets better. What we do is only introduce 1 new food a week to make sure that he does not have a reaction to it. -
