Although my son Jonah’s reflux and Sandifer’s was hard to deal with at the time, once he out grew it at 8 months, he’s been fine. I was worried how it would effect his development, but he’s 3 years old now and very advanced. We had our daughter a year ago and were prepared to deal with the reflux again… but she’s been GREAT…She hardly even spit up!!!!!n I hope your baby does well with the treatment.

I work from home for the most part, my husband walked in from work one day and noticed Bryson was having a spasm. After collapsing (me),a ambulance ride and a over night stay in the hospital the doctor said Bryson had Reflux. He said the EEG came back normal and through process of elimination it’s reflux. He gave us Zantac and told us to follow up with ped in the morning. 3 weeks later Bryson had another spasm episode we were then given Prevacid packets ( which my son hates he spits most of it out) 15 mg– dosage split given twice daily. Monday he had another spasm episode so we are now headed to a Neuro but I will scedule an appointment with the ped GI first thing in the morning!!!
PS. Laura- you’re a life saver thanks for the email!!! Congrats on the new addition. May your new baby enrich your life as your kind words has mine!

I am so glad you found this site! It was a life saver for me. Your child’s syndrome sounds so much like mine. My son, Jonah (there are a couple Jonah’s on this site) at four months had spasms (almost like seizures) we spent the night in the hospital and they said reflux, we tried zantac, no luck, then I found this site, and told my doc he had sandifer’s, went to different doc, and he confirmed it, we tried the packets (they worked okay, but were a real pain), we finally got solutabs (he is on 15 mg a day, half in AM and half in PM) it has been a huge difference. He doesn’t have the pain response symptoms anymore, and I think he is getting better too. I hear what you are saying and understand, this site helped me tremendously, it will get better! Jonah is 7 1/2 months now, and is such a happy little guy. Your child will get better! Like everyone says, ask for Prevacid!

a couple more things….I found that taking Jonah off of all dairy products helped too, supposedly dairy aggravates reflux, we also switched to Enfamil Nutramigen (super expensive, but worth it), and thickened his formula with rice cereal. Hang in there.

July 14, 2006 at 3:35 am #11469AnonymousInactiveHi Guys,
Bryson had a ruff night. I am wondering if his dosage is correct/ok ( it’s different from the dosage chart). He takes 15mg twice a day. He’s 3 months and will be 4 months on the 7th. He takes Mylanta as well but I find myself giving him everything( orajel, gas relief meds and Mylanta etc…) when he goes into one of his “fits”. My emotions are all over the place. Am I crazy?
July 14, 2006 at 7:54 am #11472hellbenntKeymasterso that’s 15mg 2 times a day for a total of 30mgs per day?
for ‘fits’ it they were screams of pain, ie: reflux, I addded in zantac- spaced at aleast 2hrs apart from the prevacid
also ask your doctor about carafate…
July 14, 2006 at 12:29 pm #11489AnonymousInactiveHow long has been on the prevacid? It took my son about 10 days for it to really start working. As far as your emotions, I was an emotional wreck too until about 6 months, because I would freak out about every cry and felt guilty because it was four months before we figured out that something was wrong….hang in there.

July 14, 2006 at 12:53 pm #11493AnonymousInactiveThanks Guys,
Bryson splits a 15mg packet ( Prevacid) twice a day. Is this enough for his age/weight(15 pounds)? Laura did you have the baby yet?
July 14, 2006 at 12:55 pm #11494AnonymousInactiveBryson has been on the Prevacid for about a month.
July 14, 2006 at 1:13 pm #11497AnonymousInactiveSo, he’s only getting 7.5 mg twice per day?
He probably needs a much higher dose. Have you looked at the dosing information at marci-kids? They have a dosing calculator that you can use to check his dose. Here’s the link.
