Screaming when given Zantac (New Here!)

Hi There!

I can’t thank you all enough for keeping this forum going. I had a hunch my 11 week old had silent reflux and after reading for several hours on this forum, I got the diagnosis I suspected and are working on getting him feeling better.

We are on Zantac (for now, Prevacid probably in our future)… The generic Ranitidine (15mg/ml – 2mL twiche daily.

My little guy SCREAMS when given the medicine. I mean SCREAMS like a blood curdling screech. It takes us 5 minutes or so to calm him down after we give him the meds. I’ve read that the medicine tastes horrible but is the screaming common among infants????

Also, do you all have any ‘chaser’ suggestions that I could give to him right away? He has been refusing his bottle due to the silent reflux, so the milk isn’t an option. Do you think giving him gripe water immediately after would affect the medicine’s effectiveness?

Wow, you’d think I was giving this kid poision or something

you can give the zantac w/ mylanta cherry supreme – or any store brand equivelant- cvs has one- find the variety w/o any aluminum-

you can give 1ml up to 5 times a day- it’s safe, even for newborns. if you see loose stools back off. (you CANNOT give mylanta w/ a PPI and you CANNOT give zantac w/ a PPI- they must be given 4hrs seperate)
