InactiveI’m touched by all your responses and support. Daniel seemed to be doing better on Pepcid last week but we’re having some bad feedings again since yesterday.

This is the never ending battle and i’m sick of it. I’ve already made a few phone calls to a couple of GI’s in the area but apparently they’re pretty conservative as well. I don’t even know what to do anymore. Come Monday i’m printing out the info and sending it to our GI and see what happens.
Daniel weighed in at 11lb 9 oz this past Thursday at the Ped’s appt. Anyone know the max dose for Pepcid at this weight?
we’re doing 1ml 3Xday and eliminated Carafate since i noticed no difference between using it or not.Any words?

KeymasterI don’t know pepsid dosing…just zantac…ask your pharmacist to check her/his ‘ipharmacist’- it’s an electronic device w/
up to date dosing informationask for pediatric dosing for ‘Duodenal and gastric ulcer’ (this would be a ‘basic’ dose’ )and also ask for pediatric dosing for ‘GERD and erosive esophagitis’ (this would be the dose to look at for your baby)let us know!August 26, 2007 at 11:17 am #41696Anonymous
InactiveHi Yani,
I’m a pharmacist, and hopefully I can help a bit with Pepcid dosing recommendations for infants. First of all, what is the strength of the Pepcid suspension you were given? This is important to know because the dosing guidelines always refer to mg of drug, which you then use to figure out how many mL of suspension to give.
Here are the dosing recommendations (from my ipharmacist) for Pepcid in the treatment of GERD in infants and children:
Infants < 3 months: 0.5 mg / kg / dose given once dailyInfants 3 – 12 months: 0.5 mg / kg / dose given twice dailyChildren 1 – 12 years: 0.5 mg / kg / dose given twice daily (maximum of 80 mg / day)So for Daniel, being 2 months old and weighing approximately 5.25 kg, the recommended dose would be 2.625 mg given once daily. You could likely safely round this up to 3 mg per day since these types of medications (H2 blockers) are generally very safe and have very little if any side effects.I hope this helps some, but like I mentioned above, you need to know the strength of the suspension you have (in mg / mL) in order to figure out the appropriate dose.Good luck!MFPIx22007-08-26 11:48:58

InactiveSpoke to the GI yesterday and we’re back on Zantac 1 ml 3Xday.
when will this ever end? Does this dose seem appropiate or do i have room to increase? I was told he would only do a max of 3 ml a day for Pepcid.August 28, 2007 at 2:28 pm #41815Anonymous
InactiveI’m sorry to hear that. I’m sure it’s very discouraging. I hope the Zantac helps him. From Laura’s intro I read that a good dose of Zantac for GERD is 5-10 mgs per kilogram. Check on the bottle to see how many mgs are in each ml and then you can figure out how many mgs he’s getting per dose.
Good luck. I hope he’s feeling better soon.August 28, 2007 at 8:22 pm #41844hellbennt
Keymasterbaby is 5.23 kg
so max dose is 10mgs per kilogram5.23 x 10 = 52.3 so let’s call that 52total dose of zantac for the day is 52mgs at the ‘highest’zantac liquid is 15mgs per ml (check your bottle but that’s the standard)so that’s 3.6mls a day total for the day of zantac at the ‘highest’ dose -
