Inactivethe report from my biopsies came back as severe reflux esophagitis. i asked the surgeon how they decided what was severe, because i am not really having pain with this—-but i do feel stuff come back up and i might get a little bit of an ache in my chest occasionally. he didn’t really know what they used to base their diagnosis on. anyway, i am now on prevacid with my girls—like i can afford or want to take one more medicine. he told me to take it for a solid 3 months to heal things, and then i will try zantac to see if it will maintain things—-zantac is so much cheaper.

Inactivei was at the couselors office today and he told me that he takes the generic prescription prilosec. do you know what the difference in strength between the OTC and the prescription strength is? i will have to check the price on the OTC, that might be a good thing for me to consider.

InactiveThe otc is only 20mgs. and the adult dosage with prescription is 40mgs.

InactiveSorry to hear about your reflux Christine. I’m glad you were able to get some answers though and can treat it. Good luck with the Prevacid, or whatever you decide to try.

InactiveOh, my. It must be so so frustrating….another prevacid rx to pay for every month. But, at least it’s treatable and hopefully you will only need it for a few months or you can use OTC Prilosec instead.
Good luck. I hope you’re feeling better soon.

Keymasterwhat a bummer christine!!!
not sure if this helps, but I have this info:
There is a website for people
who cannot afford their meds. It’s at:http://www.needymeds.com/indices/brandname.shtml
It has a listing of medications & the manufacturers that have
assistance programs, many times they provide the medicine for free if
you meet their criteria.TAP Prevacid Patient Assistance Program 1-800-830-1015 . They give prevacid (capsules only) away for free if you meet certain guidelines. You can even have partial prescription drug coverage. ..

InactiveChristine — I actually received the same diagnosis about 3 months ago, and my GI put me on Zegerid (after both Prevacid and Nexium didn’t work for me). I have pretty good insurance but the Zegerid is still so expensive. (And I cannot do the Prilosec because without the buffer in the Zegerid I get severe stomach pain). Anyway, they also found that I had a bad gallbladder (only functioning at 6.5% capacity), so I had that out 8 weeks ago. My GI said that especially in women around their 40s that reflux often can be associated with gallbladder disease. He seems to think that within a few more months post-surgery I may not need any reflux meds anymore. I sure hope so!!

Inactiveoh man christine, that’s awful, but hey at least as an adult you can’t fight with yourself to take the meds! Many hugs.

InactiveUGGHH – I am sorry to hear about the diagnosis… do they know why? When they did my endo they told me my cardias does not close and that could be the cause of it … or it could have been caused by candidiasis from antibiotics (But i was treated for a while before the biopsies)…
