Ariella scared me to death this evening. I was getting the bath ready for the kids. I went through my usual routine of washing the tub, turning on the water and getting the towel, clean pjs and such for the kids as the tub is filling with water. Ariella and Ilan are usually around me as I’m trying to get it done. This time Ariella decided to stay in the bathroom and play with the door. As DH approached the bathroom (I was the in the bedroom at the point), he realizes that she LOCKED HERSELF INSIDE THE BATHROOM!! I was freaking out b/c the water’s flowing, she is hysterically crying b/c she doesn’t understand what’s going on, DH’s freaking out and trying to break the door down. It was a mad house! I finally got her to calm down and guided her through unlocking the door. Luckily, no one was hurt in the process but I had so much going through my head those few minutes Now, I gotta make sure this doesn’t happen again. Do I tape over the lock so she doesn’t lock herself in again. She likes playing with it and I’m afraid she’ll lock herself in again. Do they have anything for locks that’s childproof??
July 13, 2009 at 9:32 am #63267AnonymousInactiveWe have those “keys” that came with the doors so we can unlock them from teh outside. They are not really keys, just a long piece of wire thick enough (like a wire hanger thickness) but smaller than a pinky finger that goes in the door and you can unlock it from the outside…… Do you have anything like that?
July 13, 2009 at 10:06 pm #63275AnonymousInactiveAnn Marie, I know what you’re talking about. My parents have those kind of “keys”. We’re renting in an old building so our doors are old, meaning, we still have those locks where they’re not on the knob but rather under the knob and the the key whole is huge for those old type of keys (I don’t know if I’m being clear).
July 14, 2009 at 9:02 am #63278AnonymousInactiveno, I get it… can you tape over them or something like you said? This has been a big thing for us once they learned how to lock the doors, so assume it might happen again…… I would either tape over them, or see if your lanlord has a key to them or something…..
July 15, 2009 at 10:37 am #63290hellbenntKeymasterthis happened w/ jonah once, too. luckily the lock can be opened w/ a knife, but it’s scary just the same!
hugs to you mariannaJuly 15, 2009 at 3:27 pm #63294AnonymousInactiveAnn Marie, I’ll probably tape over it so that we won’t have to go through the same thing again. Laura, yes it was scary!
July 15, 2009 at 4:19 pm #63296AnonymousInactivei don’t understand how the locks you are talking about work. i think i would just ask permission to put on a new doorknob that has the little hole to unlock it with and then keep several toothpicks on the door jam so they can easily be reached to unlocked the door.
when leif and daisy were little, i walked out the front door for something and leif followed me and shut the door behind me—-and it was locked. daisy was a baby, and fortunately she was in her swing, but i still got totally freaked out because my baby was locked inside and i was outside.i finally found a bathroom window probably about shoulder height that was unlocked—and very narrow. i was also in a dress. i had to pull something over to the window and climbe through this narrow opening to get in—-i can just imagine what i looked like straddling a narrow window where i couldn’t touch the floor till i got over the window sill.later, leif said something about daisy getting locked inside and he said, “Mommy cried—-Mommy screamed.”i’m sure it wasn’t as scary as having a child locked in a room with running water, though. glad it all came out well.July 16, 2009 at 10:47 pm #63312AnonymousInactiveChristine, Ariella also kept asking me “why was daddy knocking so hard on the door?”. I told her “he was trying to get you out”. So now she keeps telling everyone that daddy was knocking hard on the door to get her out of the bathroom. People are clueless of what she’s talking about so I kind of have to explain why, what, where….
July 17, 2009 at 9:36 pm #63322AnonymousInactiveMarianna, Strange thing happened to us last night. Cooper I guess got mad at might b/c he didn’t want to go to sleep and came out of his room to find me, I was downstairs and he was up and couldn’t get down b/c of the gate. Well he locked his door and shut it! i didn’t realize it until 10pm when I went to check on him like I do every night to recover him before I go to bed. Luckily we have the new locks that just pop, but they pop loudly and I woke him up getting into his room. He of course acted like nothing was wrong but all I could think about was what if the house had caught on fire and he was locked in his room… So scary. I hope you remedy your problem soon!
August 7, 2009 at 9:32 pm #63482AnonymousInactiveOh, Beth…I’m glad you were able to open the door. I know what you mean about thinking of some possible moments that could be pretty scary. How are you feeling? How’s the pregnancy going?
