Similac Alimentum

Yesterday my son’s dr switched him from Enfamil AR to Similac Alimentum. He is trying to see if maybe Alston has a milk allergy and if it will help with his choking. Well, I know that today was a honeymoon period, but he seemed so much happier. My only concern is he did spit up quite a bit with the Enfamil AR, however today, he spit up constantly. It was awful, but it didn’t seem to bother him. Do you have any thoughts about this? Another question I have is about solids. He spits up all of his solids except when I feed him applesauce and oatmeal or pears and oatmeal. It’s crazy! Have any of you had any experience with Alimentum?

We had great success with alimentum. My only suggestion might be to try the Ready To Feed version b/c it is thicker and he might keep it down better. Good luck!! I hope things continue to go well!

In our case the Alimentum was much worse because it was so thick. My dd was not yet diagnosed with MSPI so when she would vomit it, it would choke her worse than the Enfamil.

She only stopped puking when she was put on Neocate.

My son is on Nutramigen and it is not thick at all.

What is the difference between Alimentum and Nutramigen?

I don’t believe there is much difference between Nutramigen and Alimentum. One is made by Enfamil and the other is Similac. The only thing I remember is that the Ready To Feed is thicker but the RTF Alimentum contains corn, which is harder for some babies to digest. I’m not sure if the RTF Nutramigen has corn or not.

I was at Walmart the other day and a woman in front of me had about 12 containers of Alimentum. I made conversation with her about how expensive it is and she said “Yeah, we couldn’t afford it without our insurance covering it!” I never even thought to have our insurance pay for Alimentum (or Nutramigen) but that might be something to look into. I know that when a child needs Neocate I’ve heard of insurance covering, but you might want to look into getting a rx from your doctor to help cover the cost. It’s not cheap!

actually alimentium RTF does not contain corn. This is what my son is on since he would not drink nutramigen and I bought RTF alimentium specifically because of the no corn, and he tolerates pretty well. hope this helps
