InactiveMy 3 month old, Ben,is still waking several times in the night and doesn’t take naps unless being held during the day. I have read from many of you that the stomach sleeping is great and works well. However, Ben really loves to be swaddled and I’m not sure how to swaddle him and have him sleep on his tummy. I have recently gotten an A.R. wedge (like tucker sling), but also can’t figure out how to use it if he’s swaddled. any suggestions would be great.
Thanks!July 2, 2007 at 4:27 pm #38426Anonymous
InactiveHello,
I don’t have any answers about sleeping on the tummy in a swaddle, but I just want to say that some reflux babies are not more comfortable on their tummies. Caden has never like to be on his tummy even for a second. As soon as he would be placed on his tummy he would fuss. Then, once he could roll over, he would immediately roll to his back. I think for some babies, it puts pressure on their tummies and aggravates their reflux. Just something to be aware of…I know some REALLY love to be on their tummies though, so it’s worth a try
Also, Caden was exactly like your little one at 3 months – waking several times at night and only napping in a baby carrier. Have you tried wearing him in a carrier for his naps? That really made our lives easier at that time. I bought a Mei-Tai baby carrier which holds him in the front and spreads the weight around evenly so your back doesn’t hurt. We love ours! I still use it sometimes when he isn’t feeling well, or like lately as his reflux has returned after being gone for a couple of months
Also, I know I’ve seen a post on here somewhere about sleeping in the Tucker Wedge while baby is swaddled. Maybe someone will see your post and tell you how they did it. I think I read that they kept the arms swaddled but not the legs if that makes sense…not sure if that was it but someone else will probably be able to jump in and help here.Welcome to the site – you’ll find lots of support and great advice here!Good luck!July 2, 2007 at 6:28 pm #38439July 2, 2007 at 6:40 pm #38442Anonymous
InactivePersonally I’d never swaddle a tummy sleeping infant. It seems a little dangerous to me. Sorry. I know that doesn’t help much.

InactiveCooper didn’t like being on his tummy until he learned to roll over so he only recently has been sleeping on his tummy, so if you can get your lo to sleep on their back swaddled then go for it. Tummy sleeping can come later.
