Carter is nearly 10 months old now and eating some solids as well as his formula (Alimentum). He is able to put himself to sleep at night (even without a bottle) but wakes in the middle of the night almost exactly 4 hours on the dot from his last bottle.
If I go in and feed him, he is right back to sleeping for another 4 hours….and so the cycle goes all night. My doctor once compared Alimentum to eating Chinese food in that your body processes it fast so I am afraid to let him CIO at night because I am so afraid that he is waking up hungry (and not just unable to put himself to sleep – – esp. since he puts himself to bed at night).
Has anyone else had this experience with their little ones? I could sure use some advice. My doc keeps pushing me to let him CIO, but I don’t have the heart. I will look into the sleeplady next….but not sure I can go without feeding him when I am so worried he’s hungry.
Any advice (even if it is to let him CIO) is welcome.

I posted all about this recently here- what I did & how I ‘knew’ his reflux was under control and he wasn’t hungry, etc

once through the night screaming. I knew he was starving because
nothing would calm him down until I gave him a bottle. He would
suck down 6 to 8 ounces and go right back to sleep until morning.
I knew his reflux was under control and everyone told me we needed to
CIO too but I just knew that wouldn’t work because he was hungry.
I did try it one night and it went on for 45 minutes until I gave him a
bottle, and then he was back to sleep. But……..once he turned
1 and we tried whole milk with success, he began sleeping through the
night. He would have dinner around 6:00, a full sippy of milk
around 7:00, a container of yogurt around 8:00 and then to bed for the
rest of the night. So, I truly believe the Alimentum wasn’t as
filling for him. I do have to say the yogurt before bed has made
a huge diffference as well. If he doesn’t get that, it seems he
does wake at night but will put himself back to sleep. So,
hopefully this has offered some hope…….I didn’t think the day would
ever come. I hope he’ll have the same success. Here’s
hoping for the end of “one-waking nights!”July 9, 2006 at 12:58 pm #11222AnonymousInactiveKaelyn was on Nutramigen which is very similar to Alimentum. We did CIO around 9 months when we knew that her reflux was under control. I think that she started sleeping through the night around then as well. You could try givng him a bottle of water instead of formula. If he takes it and goes back to sleep then you know it’s habit. If he’s still fussy then you know he’s hungry.
