InactiveThe poor little thing must be really uncomfortable- of course he will sleep better with his mum (don’t you just love cuddling up to them
) who must make him feel calm and safe. MMM, the dose does sound low. Alana’s sleep improved out of sight once her meds were right. Also, if it is compounded liquid you might need to check they are doing it correctly (I don’t know much about this but there have been lots of posts about this recently). Hopefully childcare will respect your wishes and not do any type of CIO0 if not I would find one that did. I know mine let me dictate the routine, at least whilst she is in the nursery.January 14, 2007 at 9:07 am #22332Anonymous
InactiveThank you everyone who has replied, it sure helps to hear from all of you.
It is a compound liquid that my lo is taking. Do you where the post have been about this? PPI’s are not FDA approved here in Canada. So the pharmacist had to make it. Also I have tried to find a liquid mylanta but so far no luck. All I can find is the tablets for adults to take. Is it sold on the shelves in the USA? Where do you get it?
You know yesterday my son, Cayden, did not fuss at any meals WOW. I thought something might be working, but when it was bed time he was up every half hour
. I hope the dr. will increase the meds. We see him again on thurs. Something has to work. Those of you who have a lo who has a dairy intolerance, does it run in your family? Did you intake lots of dairy when pregnant? I will cut out dairy in my diet, but I don’t see how he could have an allergy to it. I ate and drank it all the time when pregnant and no one has an issue on either side of the family.

This last link actually explains how the proper way to compound the meds so they don’t lose their effectiveness.
And yes, Mylanta in liquid form is avalailable OTC here in the US. I thought it was in Canada too.

KeymasterPPIs aren’t FDA approved for pediartics in the states, either. There has been a lot of research done, http://www.marci-kids.com , and faxing this information to your doctor might help. I just can’t see how 1ml one times a day can do anything at all, poor baby (I mean how many mgs can be in 1ml? 5mgs?)…
as for the dairy in your diet- personally I would wait until your baby is on a GOOD dose of PROPERLY compounded PPI and see how that goes…then you can address diet…unless right now you’re seeing blood (could look like coffe grounds) or mucous (stringy) in his stools?

InactiveYou know this may not be it at all but everytime we had Brianna on compounded medication, she had problems sleeping. We had her on Carafate, and she would wake up from every nap at 30 min to the dot, and would not go back to sleep. It is weird, but it happened everythme. We had her on thrush meds (compounded) and the same thing happened. I know it doesn’t do anything for you and your problem with PPI’s not being approved, but maybe the marci-kids info could help you get on a higher dose and get the solutabs or something. Good luck!

Inactiveyour baby could easily have a milk protein intolerance and it has nothing to do with if it runs in your family. many reflux babies are MSPI.
my son is MSPI and there is no history of intolerance in the family. the milk protein is extremely hard to digest for a baby, and when you add reflux into the mix it makes it even worse.
most babies with MSPI outgrow it between the age of 1 and 3.January 14, 2007 at 2:01 pm #22354Anonymous
InactiveYou can not get mylanta in Canada but can get maalox. You can get the prevacid fastabs here, and dissolve them in a bit of water and do it that way.

InactiveI agree with laura- look at getting the PPI meds increased (and compounded correctly if you continue to go with this) before the elimination diet (if you do both at the same time you won’t know whats helped- a few of us have had that problem).
On the dairy intolerance thing- both hubby and I react in some way to dairy (me excma, him diarhea) so I suppose it is no suprise Alana has it. But then it may not be heriditary at all, as other mums have pointed out. So who knows. Someitmes I think I don;t know anything

Goodluck on the meds front.

InactiveMy son isn’t totally sleep trained as we are still working on getting his reflux under control too, but one thing that has really helped is having a set routine.. one for naps and one for bedtime. I started the bedtime one when he was brand new… about 2 weeks old… he gets his pm meds, a bath, a book with his sister, nurses and then bed. Now no matter how fussy he has been that day, once I start to pull off his socks and take his clothes off for his bath, he starts to smile and giggle.
He sucks his fingers too, and that has really helped him put himself back to sleep during the night.
I wouldn’t let him cry it out either, but sometimes he does wake up and I can tell he isn’t really totally awake and letting him cry for a few minutes (no more than 10 or so) is enough for him to go back to sleep.
