Hi there!
I’m new to these boards so I apologize in advance if anyone has already posted about this situation. So our son,a preemie, born at 33w5d, is now 3 months old (6 weeks adjusted). He has reflux and spits up frequently anytime after a feed (5 ins. after, 1 hr. after, 2 hrs. after, etc.)I have a question about his sleeping. We’ve got him in a glider so he’s sitting up on an angle. He sleeps very well, waking up for feedings mostly and the occasional bad spitup episode. Of course he spits up during the night, so it soaks his jammies (a onesie and his swaddle blanket.) I feel terrible b/c at each middle-of-the-night feeding when I change his diaper I notice his back and collar are soaked!! I’ve changed his outfit in the middle of the night before but that doesn’t seem feasible at every feeding! I also am concerned b/c he’s got some eczema so when his collar gets soaked, then the back of his neck breaks out in little red bumps! I know it’s a losing battle but I wanted to know…is this normal for reflux babies? What you have done in this situation? I am eager to hear any suggestions or advice! Thanks!NicoleMom to Colin – 12/19/08 – reflux, eczema, cradle cap (ugh!); on PrevacidMarch 19, 2009 at 4:58 pm #61735hellbenntKeymasterhi & welcome!
the first thing that jumps out at me from your post is the skin issues…so what jumps to mind is MSPI (milk soy protein intolerance)…what formula is your baby on or are you breastfeeding?March 19, 2009 at 9:19 pm #61736AnonymousInactiveI am breastfeeding. We are also concerned about the skin issues…my husband has the trilogy (allergies, asthma, eczema). We are hoping he does not get that too!

The only thing that really cleared it up was a prescription creme from the doctor that is a mixture of nystatin and something else. Try to keep the area as dry as possible. I used nystatin powder for this or I would put some baby powder on my hands and then rub his neck under chin area but it can get caked up if you aren’t careful. We luckily didn’t have spit ups at night often so that was a during the day problem for us, but pretty common none the less. Welcome aboard.
March 20, 2009 at 8:03 am #61739hellbenntKeymastersince you have allergies, etc, in the family: I would research MSPI- there’s a MSPI Forum and there’s a ‘main’ page that is stickied there
also: go to the Introduce Yourself Forum and read Groupie Intro-it’s Looong, but WILL help you! skim/scroll/ read through itMarch 22, 2009 at 2:11 am #61755AnonymousInactiveWhat about a cream that allows the skin to breath but provides a seal…in Aus we have a cream call Bepathan that would do the trick. Then if he does spit up, whilst his clothes are wet it does not seap into the skin…perhaps ask the chemist. I also agree about the MSPI, eliminating dairy is a PITA but may be worth the effort!
