InactiveWe were just switched from Zantac to Prevacid Solutabs tonight. Our ped prescribed 15 mg tablets to give 7.5 mg twice a day. Can these by cut in half? It says not to crush or chew them so I am not sure.
Thanks.

InactiveThe package insert says not to, but most of us have had to, and it hasworked just fine. I used to divide them on a paper plate so I could fold it in half and pour the little remnants into the container I was saving the second 1/2 in, so I wouldn’t lose any.
They definitely should not be crushed or chewed, but divided or cut is ok.

InactiveI use a pill cutter to cut them in half. Then I put 1/2 on a baby spoon with a little water and break it up with another spoon and feed it to her. She loved it and starts smacking her lips together when she sees it.
Abby was also on 7.5mg 2x’s per day. It really has helped her. Hope you see the same success with your lo. It will take up to 2 wks. to see the full effect.Andrea

Inactiveyep it’s perfectly fine to cut them, actually I prefer breaking them in 2, sometimes using a knife can make them crumble.

Inactivethey are 15 mg tablets. so doc told me to give it four x day to equal 30mg??? i don’t know iam so frieken confused
right now i am just giving her the compound b/c her feeding patterns are so erratic, that i just couldn’t deal with the solutabs. im about to just give the compound and the solutabs together to put a end to this crap
that way i know she is deff getting enough meds

InactiveIt is def. hard to give the solutabs around meals esp. if she is eating erraticly. Abby didn’t usually have to hard of a time but she was a good eater except for crying on and off during the feedings. I really hope the Neocate starts to help. I started to notice a difference in about a week and then it just got better and better as time went on. I do know of a baby that had a bad reaction to Prevacid and had to be switched to Zegerid and now is doing great. So if you aren’t seeing an improvement soon I would ask to try another PPI.

Keymaster*If your baby is prescribed a PPI (prilosec/prevacid/nexium), it can take a while to ‘kick in.’ It can take up to 2 weeks for the PPI to ‘kick in’, so in the meantime, many of our babies have continued w/ the zantac. The prilosec kicked in for Jonah on day 12. So, you’ll probably want to [read: SHOULD] keep your baby on zantac until the PPI kicks in bcse otherwise, it’s as if your baby isn’t on any meds at all. I learned this the HARD WAY!
