solutabs -prevacid

so we are trying prevacid again— when we first used it we were mixing it with h20 but the RN said I could just put it in Ryder’s mouth and it would melt….my issue is hie is only 8 MONTHS OLD!!! The pill is huge and they don;t melt that well. Is still ok to mix it with water? Does that matter? Is there a certain amount? On the old box it said 15 Mls but that was when I was splitting the dose of one pill 2x a day.

We are also still using axid for 3 days with the prevacid -I guess because the prevacid doesn’t work right away- but I just read that I should wait 4 hours between the dosing… anyone have expernices with this?

my ped Gi said to wait 2 hrs & that’s what we did. others have reported that their ped GIs have said to wait up to 5 hrs. So…it’s up to you. It took 12 days for Jonah to get relief from the PPI, so maybe give the axid up to 2 weeks?

We let the solutabs melt in Kaelyn’s mouth starting at around 3 months by holding it in her cheek. By 6 months she was just rolling it around in her mouth by herself.

We melt ours in a syringe with about 1 teaspoon of water, but usually i have to take more in to get any residue that’s left in the syringe. I wonder if my 4 month old could keep it in her mouth now, though, it would be much easier. She does ok with the syringe, but sometimes tends to push the water out of her mouth, so she has little orange granules all over her chin & neck, and sometimes chunks get stuck in the syringe.

Is it ok to break it up in a few pieces and let them sit in the baby’s mouth? I’m just wondering if smaller pieces would dissolve faster.

Dissolving them in water is fine. The cheek method never worked well for Myles. I used to dissolve his in about 2 mls of water, draw it up and administer it and it there were any beads left add a little more water, draw it up and administer again.

I agree with Laura, I’d use the Axid for about two weeks because it usually takes about two weeks to achieve adequate pain relief from Prevacid.

we let the tab dislove in Briannas mouth as welll…it took some getting used to, but with the water, I just could never get enough of the granuals in the syringe…I felt like she wan’t getting enough meds (this was before this site and the idea about using teh mylicon syringe, which I am sure would have worked, but we use the motto “if it aint broke, don’t fix it” around our house) I hope he feels better soon!
