After over two weeks on the Nutramigen we are not seeing any good results. It seemed to have helped for a bit but now we are back to sleepless nights, crying, and a fussy baby. Does anyone use soy formula or have they tried it for milk allergy, I have heard so many mixed reviews. Thanks
you most certainly can try soy formula… it’s ‘just’ that a large percent, about 60% I think it is, of babies who cannot tolerate milk proteins cannot tolerate soy…but you can try it for two weeks and see what happens…after that the next step would be neocate or elecare…
I agree with Laura… we did the breastmilk, soy then nutramigen route and Nutramigen is what worked for us. We were on soy for about 4wks total.. beware however that the poops will be horribly stinky and it can cause constipation and the spit up is really hard to get out, soy formula tends to stain worse. But if it doesn’t work then I think Neocate/Elecare should be the next step.
I have read the research on boys and soy formula and my only thought is if it is SOOOO bad, then why is it still on the market and readily available? You gotta do what you gotta do. Your little one may be one of the few who thrive on soy…or maybe not. With that being said…is Neocate or Elecare an option for you to consider if the soy doesn’t work out either?
yes, its an option but we did try to elecare for about 5 days like the GI said to do, but he was really gassy on that and had horrible stomach pain. I don’t know what to do, maybe Alimentum?
