InactiveHi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone knows at what age it’s okay to give kids peanuts (peanut butter), nuts, soy, and seafood. I’ve always heard to wait until age 3, and that’s what we did with Isaac, but everyone always acts like I’m being anal when I say my son can’t eat peanut butter (or whatever) yet. Especially grandparents. It’s also hard when Isaac is eating something that Parker wants too, but can’t eat yet. I definitely don’t want to cause any food allergies though. At what age did you all start your kids on these foods?

InactiveI heard to wait until 2 for children without any reactions, and our allergist said to wait until 5 because of the prior MSPI issues and sensitivities to foods. However, Dylan got some peanut butter crackers (by accident, of course
) and had no problem, so we have continued to give him peanut butter without an issue.August 30, 2006 at 8:58 pm #12730Anonymous
InactiveWe were told that most children could try peanut butter at age 2, but if allergies run in the family or if the child has other allergies, then you should wait until 3. I figure with all of Kaelyn’s other issues, I don’t even want to think about it until she’s 3.

scavenger jonah crawled over and, before I realized what he was doing, he found some remnants located at the furthest corner of the blanket away from me of some ritz cracker peanutbutter snack things that an older toddler had been munching, oops! Thank goodness he was fine! He was about a year old… August 31, 2006 at 9:51 am #12740Anonymous
InactiveFunny. My oldest did the same thing. He somehow managed to get into the peanut butter jar and got a handful. We got most of it away, but I know he got some in his mouth. He didn’t have any reactions, so the doc said he was okay. He was 18 mo. All the other foods we waited until he was 3 though. I’m wondering now if age 2 is the right age to wait for. We don’t have any history of food allergies in our family.
