Aidan has started solids, so far thigns have ben good, he HATED the taste of the plain oatmeal ccereal (funny cause he loves it in his bottle) so the ped said go ahead and start stage one veggies, it’s a lot sooner than I did with my first but since the doc okayed it I thought eh why not. So far today we’ve tried peas, just a few spoonfulls, which he ate with no problems, then he had a bottle. Tomorrow morning I’ll give him oatmeal cereal with bananas, I thought that maybe the different taste would be better…
April 6, 2006 at 1:47 pm #5523AnonymousInactiveThat’s exciting! Oatmeal and bananas are about the only thing Ryann will eat. Good luck with solids!
April 6, 2006 at 1:49 pm #5524AnonymousInactiveI hope it goes well! But if today is the first day he’s tried peas, you
may want to give it at least 3 days (I usually do 5) before trying a
new food – to test for any delayed reactions. Good luck!April 6, 2006 at 7:37 pm #5562AnonymousInactiveohh, it’s not oatmeal with actual bananas, it’s just the oatmeal cereal with banana flavoring I guess? not sure it’s the gerber oatmeal w/bananas, powdered cereal, I’m sticking with the peas for a few days before starting green beans. I made the mistake of starting my first son on carrots and sweet potatos and fruit, all the sweet yummy stuff, and to this day he won’t touch a veggie, I figure if I start with the nastiest tasting ones, maybe this one will actually eat real peas when he’s older??? lol However I am realizing that the babyfood choices out there are soooooo much more limited than they were with my first, when he was little they had stage one spinach and things like that, I couldn’t even find apricots or peaches (although they have 2 much acid in them for him). But I thought it was weird that they DO have stage one meat??? is that good for begining eaters? (as you can tell I can not remember what and when I gave my first baby food, can’t remember back that far-lol)
April 17, 2006 at 2:17 pm #6238AnonymousInactivemoved on to greenbeans, he ate a whole serving for lunch and then a 4 oz bottle ( his usual bottle). last week he ate prunes and liked those 2..thank goodness no allergies for this guy..not suprised though no one on either side of the family has any food allergies….but I was still concerned..
April 17, 2006 at 5:50 pm #6268AnonymousInactiveI know what you mean about the lack of variety in baby foods these days. When I was a nanny I’d shop for the parents and there were countless varieties. What happened to them all?
About the meats, I’m pretty sure La Leche League reccommends meats early on… but, I never gave them to my kids because they look so gross
My first two ate so many yellow veggies they both were orange until they were close to two years old!! There just aren’t enough baby greens out there.
Myles loves squash. He’d eat it every day.
I’m glad to hear Aidan is doing well with solids and no allergies showing up.
April 17, 2006 at 7:23 pm #6275hellbenntKeymastermeats- I did not start proteins (poultry, meat, beans) until 9 months…that’s me…
as for lack of variety- make your own! It’s not as time consuming or as hard as you would think!! from my welcome/intro there are links all about starting solids and what to feed your baby- for example: avocado and papaya…
