well, i finally broke down and made an appt. with the psych’s office. since it had been so long since i had been in, i had to be re-evaluated again. after answering all the questions, i said, “so, do i still come out as ADD and bipolar NOS?” he told me yes, dang it. i just don’t like those labels. i am going to go back on the vyvanse, even though it costs us so much more, kevin says we are just going to find a way to afford it. they are also adding a small dose of adderal that i can take in the early afternoon as the vyvanse is wearing down. i am also starting on depakote. i hate that i have passed some of these things on to my kids, hopefully the unaffected ones will stay unaffected!!! hopefully depakote won’t make me fat and kill my sex drive!!!!!!!

kevin went to the appt. with me today. i really wanted him to hear from the MD (not the psych today) how having this mild form of bipolar can affect me. hopefully he won’t expect things of me that might just be more than i can handle. i think he also realizes why i have started and not finished so many things over the years. i couldn’t keep my mind there—it wanted to take me to something else.

i guess they never picked the ADD up when i was a kid because i was good, and i was smart enough that i must have compensated in other ways.

i have no idea when the bipolar NOS set in, i know it often hits when you are a young adult. fortunately, i don’t have problems with mania, i get irritability and mood swings, but i deal mostly with depression. i told him i felt angry alot, and he said that is part of bipolar—that was something i didn’t know.

wish me luck with the meds, please. i want to feel normal again—-but i don’t even know what normal is anymore!

Good luck with the meds. I didn’t know that they prescribed depakote for depression… it’s also an anti-seizure med.

good luck w/everything Christine!! I hope it helps you get back to ‘normal’- but I agree with amber…what is normal anyway?

i take topomax for migraines…it is also an anti-seizure med like depakote and it is supposed to be a mood stabilizer. topomax causes loss of appetite and weight loss and some other side effects…so if you have issues with depakote, you could always give topomax a try. i am finally weaning from it after almost 9 yrs of use (nothing wrong with it, other than it’s not helping much with my migraines anymore…i’ve just been on it for too long and am maxed out on dosage)
