Zaine… cute name! Well, we have the exact same situation, except my daughter is 5 1/2 months old. we tried to thicken with rice (horrible gas) then oatmeal (not much better). Then we ordered simply thick. I also found the beechnut barley at the grocery store and started using that, and we had no gas problems.
As for starting solids… she is still having problems so i have laid off a bit. she did horrible on veggies which can be known to cause gas. I started just a couple of spoonfuls of organic applesauce and so far so good. Her Ped. gastro said that her system is still new and she may tolerate solids better at 6 months. So I am going to reintroduce alot of the babyfoods next month. I know its frustrating when nothing seems to work! hang in there!

Also starting food that early can really do it to them. Food really didn’t settle with Emma till around 8-9 months and she is still very limited to what she can eat. She eats organic foods. Beechnut did not settle with Emma we are on Organic brown rice and oatmeal cereal. Why do you have to thicken his formula? If the beechnut is not working that will cause it to. Every time Emma would get gassy we would stop everything but the formula, give mylanta and she was much much better!! Emma spit up ALOT so that is why we were thicking but it wasn’t worth it. I would rather her spit up alot as long as she was gaining then for her to have gas! Have you tried Zegerid?? Im wondering if another PPI would help.

Any kind of allergy can cause the bowels to bleed and might make the baby suceptible to infection. I understand wondering “Why us?” It is overwhelming to deal with stomach issues, especially with lack of sleep. My son’s sleeping has vastly improved with a change in my diet (I’m breastfeeding) and limiting his diet.
February 3, 2006 at 4:11 pm #637AnonymousInactiveBtrue-I thicken his bottles b/c of his reflux..He chokes/gags if it isn’t thicken. And I was also wondering what is the different in the Organic and the beechnut??Should I try Organic??I haven’t ever heard of Zergerid…what is it?And 1 more question does PPI’s help with gas?
Hellbennt-No I have not ever used Probiotic’s before. His Dr has never said anything about those.I will ask at our next appointment though. And what is Baby jarodophdus???
Ryannamamma-Thanks we love the name Zaine too…It’s differentWhere did you find the Beechnut Barley??I can’t find it.And we ordered the Simply Thick also but he cryed alot after eating like he was still hungry so that’s why I went back to the thicken with Oatmeal. And as far as the solids we are going to hold off until he is 7-8 months old too.
Emmy-I don’t breastfeed;he takes Alimentum.So can’t adjust that much

double click on the underlined words below- when you do this it will take you to another page where it’s explained
we always used baby jarodopholus: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3369&a mp;a mp;KW=jar
after a course of antibiotics, it is helpful to give a probiotic- acidopholus- it will help put back the ‘good’ flora & fauna – antibiotics destroy all of the bacteria, both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ and a probiotic helps put the ‘good’ back
February 3, 2006 at 4:45 pm #646AnonymousInactiveNatasha, I am from texas. I got the beechnut barley at a grocery store called albertsons. but you can have your store order it for you. also, my daughter cried too when i introduced simply thick, i think it was too thick and she wasn’t getting it as fast as she wanted. now i thicken with both. good luck!

I think it is worth a shot. I live by it b/c it is the only thing that Emma can handle. Zegerid is a new PPI. It’s like Prilosec but different. You can check it out on http://www.marci-kids.com It gives more info on the different acid meds. I don’t know if PPI’s are supposed to help with gas, I believe by experience that they do. Zegerid changed our lives, she literally was 90% better after we made the change from Prevacid. I seen that he has MSPI. Have you asked about a formula change to Neocate or Elecare? Some babies can’t even handle the Alimentum if they have severe MSPI.
