InactiveHello all. Me again.
I have decided to stop giving Justice his zegeird to see if he even needs it anymore. We haven’t uped his meds. in quite some time and I’m not seeing any signs of the reflux at the moment. Also, after doing a search on here I found that some babies actually start to sleep after being taken off meds. So, as of today I am going to try. Keep fingers crossed for me. Zegerid is very expensive and this time of the year would be perfect for him to not need it anymore. Anyway, is there anything I need to know about stopping? With my first son we stopped his prevacid and within a day or two we could tell he still needed it. Is that how it is with zegerid too?November 8, 2006 at 5:54 pm #17461Anonymous
InactiveIts not recommended to stop cold turkey because of rebound reflux. Weaning the dose down is the best way and when you reach a low dose if he still needs it he will start to show signs. I wish you all the luck but I have to say the reason you aren’t seeing any signs is probably because he is on a high enough dose for him. But I really hope it works.

InactiveGood luck Shelby. I think it is very important to go with your gut and do what you need to do. You will soon find out if it isn’t working. I’ve tried a few things like this with my bub and you can usually tell within a day or two if it is or isn’t working- then you know! You are the mum, do what you feel works for you and your babe. All babies are different so who knows what the outcome will be. Let us know how it goes.

InactiveGood luck Shelby! Not sure if I’m mixing you up with someone else, but didn’t you guys just recently try a wean?

InactiveNo, we didn’t wean. There is no telling how long I am going to nurse Justice. My goal is 2 yrs, but we will see.
He is still doing great. During his nap today he woke up looked around a bit and rolled over and went back to sleep.
That is the first time he has done that since he was born. Hopefully he won’t need the meds any more. I know I still have probably a day or so to know for sure, but I’m still hopeing. I will be amazed if I can take him off this early. Luke had to be on meds until he was 9 mos. We will see. November 9, 2006 at 9:20 pm #17577Anonymous

InactiveJust an update. Justice is still doing great as far as reflux, but he is having some really painful poops. Apparently the mylanta mixed with his zegerid made his body dependent on it. I am going to stop all solids for a while until his body learns to go on its on. I will do my best to keep you updated.

InactiveI’m glad to hear he’s doing ok without the Zegerid. I hope his poop issues resolve.
How’s he sleeping? How many days has he been off meds now?
Good luck!

InactiveJustice has been off of his meds for two days now. So far so good. Dr. Phillips did say though that some babies won’t show signs of reflux for 2 or 3 weeks.
As far as the sleeping. Well, that hasn’t been going so well since a day before I took him off the meds. I think he might be getting another tooth. Of course, Justice is not a good sleeper anyway. He does pretty well as long as I let him nurse all night long, but even that has not been going so well. We will see. My fingers are crossed. I know 6 months is pretty early, but I know it’s possible.

InactiveGood luck, Shelby!
2 or 3 weeks!? Joel did not tell me that when I asked about stopping meds. He said you’d know within a few days if they still needed the PPI or not.

Sorry. I meant a wean from the zegerid (not nursing, LOL).
Glad to hear he’s doing well.

InactiveOops.
I get the when are you going to wean from breastfeeding question all the time. I actually took Justice off his meds cold turkey. Today is the third day and still no signs.
I have a feeling Dr. Phillips meant to say 2 to 3 days. He is just so busy. I get some really weird answers from him sometimes. I read them and think did you actually read my e-mail. I know how busy he must be so now I make my questions really short. I REALLY miss Joel. He was great. Joel always took plenty of time to read my e-mails. He was also great about checking these boards. That is actually where I met him. Well, thank you all. Hopefully the sleep issues will get better and I will have more time to be on here to help if possible. It is my mission to help other moms going through the same thing.November 11, 2006 at 4:17 pm #17774Anonymous
InactiveI hope that the weaning goes very well-really it sounds like it is going in the right direction. We had stopped cold turkey with Isaac’s protonix per dr’s order b/c they have the ppi built up in their system and their body self weans
The dr also said a full 2 weeks is needed to see if it is a success! -
