InactiveTaylor is now home and doing much better. We really needed the hospital stay, it was not the ideal situation but very needed! She vomited once yesterday but it was after she gagged on Zantac. She was getting Zantac via IV in the hospital and seemed to be doing very well on it so we decided to switch her from Prilosec, but she hates the taste! Anyways, she is refusing to eat baby food, no purees for her, since at the hospital she was snacking on crackers and bread when she was feeling good. She is just gagging and spitting out baby foods. Alexis was never like this, she ate pureed foods until she was past 15 months so I never experience Table foods with her. I tried giving her cooked carrots and peas but she just refused them, but she ate the ones that were in my soup, I guess because they has more flavor to them. Anyways, what are some things I can try- Remind you that she is allergic to corn (corn starches), corn syrup, and milk but I truly think it is only in large amounts if there is a little in it expect for actually corn she has no problems. I need some suggestions to try to put weight back on this little one!

InactiveMyles loves pancakes and they’re pretty fattening, and they’re easy for babies to eat. The brand I buy is a whole grain pancake mix and has no dairy products, but you do have to add eggs. She’s almost one, so maybe that would be ok. I’ll check tonight when I go grocery shopping. (I don’t have any on hand to check the label for you).
If she passes the egg trial, she can have french toast. My babies all loved it with a little bit of jam, or even just plain.
Maybe some pasta.
If I think of anything else I’ll post them. I’m pretty sure Laura has some great post for toddler foods…maybe do a search for those.
Oh, I’m glad to hear she’s home and recovering. Myles had a pretty bad bout of rotavirus in Nov that almost landed him in the hospital. It really is awful. I’m glad she’s ok now.

InactiveMaybe some crumbled (boiled) egg yolk? I think those are pretty high in fat/calories. Bryce loves those. Or maybe some diced avocado? Of course she might not like that if she doesn’t like the diced veggies. You could put avocado on crackers or toast. How about goat’s milk yogurt?

InactiveOh, I checked and the pancake mix I buy (Bob’s Red Mill) does contain corn, but the other brands didn’t, and some had no dairy and you can mix them with water instead of milk.

InactiveOh, speaking of pancakes – I have a really good recipe for whole wheat pancakes that can be made with other kinds of milk (I’ve used goat’s milk and it didn’t taste any different). Let me know if you’re interested.

InactiveOh – yes you could make them with rice milk, oat milk – whatever. Goat’s milk is just what I used. I’ll go find the recipe.

InactiveOops, I just remembered that this has egg whites in it so I guess you couldn’t give it to babies under one. Oh well – If anyone else wants it here it is:
Whole-wheat pancakes
1 egg
1 c whole wheat flour (you could use white flour instead)
3/4 c milk (substitute any non-dairy milk)
1 T sugar or brown sugar
2 T oil
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. saltBeat egg until fluffy. Beat in remaining ingredients until smooth. For thinner batter, add more milk.

Inactivehi sue! riley loves to eat (even at three) veggies from my soup, so i started buying any veggie soup i knew he liked. we rinse it thoroughly in the collander then give him all the veggies. he’ll only eat a handful of fresh veggies, and i think he really loves the bit of flavor these soup veggies have, even though they’ve been rinsed.
for putting on weight, do a search for ‘bubba bread’. i used that for riley almost constantly when he was little and wouldn’t eat much of anything. i baked it like a cake (9 x 13) or in cupcake pans when he thought that was really ‘cool’. it has TONS of veggies/fruits in it, and it’s loaded with olive oil. i also slathered on the butter….great for the brain development, especially before age one. calories were a plus too.
almond milk is especially high in fat/calories. rice milk has the lowest amt of fat and i would say if you’re looking to add calories and keep weight on, go with almond milk.
hope some of that helps! take care!

InactiveI don’t know – a lot of ppl don’t like to give their babies egg whites and other high-risk allergens (like citrus, etc.) under one, especially if they have history of allergies in the family. I have no idea what’s true and what’s not though.

Inactiveyeah a lot of what im reading says that alot of that high allergen info under age 1 is myths…unless of course those allergies run in the family. so i think i will try this recipe.

InactiveIf your child is not prone to allergies it may not apply, but if allergies are likely I would still avoid the top 8 allergens…heck Audrey cant eat anything yet….her body cant even tolerate sweet potatoes and they are supposed to be one of the “easier” foods.
Some kids who are egg allergic react to the flu vaccine merely because the vaccine was grown in an eggshell…..so I think there is some validity to the staying away from allergic foods, but hey with no history or slim chances of being allergic I would probably go for it, but with my kids I couldnt/wouldnt

InactiveNatalia, I buy the Bob’s Red Mill 10 grain pancake mix at my local grocery store in the Whole Foods or Health Foods Section. It does not contian egg or milk or any kind but you are supposed to add egg, water and/or milk when you mix it. I suppose you could add just egg yolk, water and any milk subsitute you want to try. It does contain corn. ndrose2007-3-24 10:13:9

InactiveThanks! Keep the suggestions going! Alexis had McDonald’s today, I know I know not the best food in the world, but it does put the weight on her and I have just been a little too tired to cook! Before I realized it Alexis was feeding Taylor little pieces of french fries and some of her hamburger! She loved it! She ate like 5 long french fries and half of the patty and half of the lower bun! She wanted more, but I didn’t want to make her sick! I did buy veggie soup today, I think I will try the veggies tonight for dinner! I am going to try the panncake recipe, since Alexis loves panncakes as well! Alexis’s mom2007-3-24 14:28:58
