Takes 1 hr to feed w/thickened formula

After trying soy formula and this is working then adding Zantac 2 x a day, then up’ing the dose we are to the point of adding cereal to each bottle (dr. recommended) – he said to use 1 tsp per ounce. The formulation that seemed to work was 6 1/4 tsp per 5 oz – but it it taking her an hour to eat each bottle! Sometimes she falls asleep. In the middle of the night, I’M falling asleep! I am thinking of dialing it back a bit and trying half and seeing if that helps it go faster, but still not have her spitting up so much. Any ideas? I also tried a larger nipple, but she drank so fast she threw it up – I tried this for one feeding today – not sure if it was a fluke or not, but have a feeling she got too much too quick and that caused her to spit up so much.

what happens if you don’t thicken? baby throws up whole feed? is baby FTT?

is baby in pain?

are you sure soy is working? (great! if it is! just that most babies here that have had problems with milk proteins also have problems with soy proteins…)

How old is the baby? We started thickening Isaac’s feeds at 8 weeks old and it was brutal until we found the right bottle and nipple.

My son had cereal in his formula starting at 1 month old. I would buy the YELLOW rubber nipples with three holes in it (parents choice brand at Walmart) and I would heat up a saftey pin and poke it through to ‘melt’ open/widen one (or more of the holes). I would start with one hole and if enough didn’t come out, I’d try two holes. That worked awesome for me, and it didn’t come out too fast like those Y cut nipples. Note: the silicone (clear) nipples don’t melt, so it won’t work on them.
