InactiveWe are taking Barret to the beach and I’m not sure what to pack. Of course the basics like swimsuit, sunscreen, etc…, but is there anything else that I will need? There aren’t many places to buy things at the beach that we are going to. This my first time taking a baby to the beach and I want to be sure that I’ll have everything I need.
Do any of you know where I can buy baby rash guards? Thanks!

InactiveHey Brooke,
Just FYI, you can’t put sunscreen on Barret until he is 6 months old. I know what a bummer, not sure why that is, but our ped told us that. Cooper went to the beach when he was only 7 weeks old. Luckily it was cold that week and we only went on the beach with him one time. What we did was keep him under an umbrella and kept a hat on him, he wouldn’t wear his sunglasses. Also there are blankets that my sister in law had called Aqua pruff, I think and they repell water and don’t collect sand like a towel does. don’t know if you can get that where you are. I would just say keep him covered up, but don’t use sunscreen, it actually says not to be used before 6months on the bottles, I had never noticed it before. Cooper has super fair skin like me and so we will be using a ton of it once he is 6 months old.
Hope it stays warm for you guys.

InactiveAn umbrella might be a good idea. I don’t think babies that young should be in the sun or heat for long periods of time, even with sunscreen. They can over heat and dehydrate much faster than an adult. Make sure you have water for him to drink, even if he doesn’t normally drink water (it’s not usually needed for infants) he may need it and want it on the beach.
I’ve never heard of rash guards.

Have fun!

InactiveThe no sunscreen prior to 6 months is because it can seep in through the skin and the chemicals are not good for the neurological system.
I would say bring a beach baby tent or something to keep him out of the sun. Maybe even one of those battery operated fans to keep him cool.

InactiveI am all aboard with the above. We went to a lot of baseball games (2 older brothers) and I took the stroller with a blanket to make a “shade”. We also had an umbrella and a personal fan with a clip that could blow on him. He always seemed to get too warm and I left the baseball game early.

InactiveHey Brooke,
Ditto on the sunscreen comments, but you might be able to find a big umbrella with SPF in it. I think we got one at Target last year.
When Barret gets older, I’m also a big fan of the SunBusters hat.

The sizes are for when they are about a year old. It also has SPF and a nice big brim on it. A must have if you live near the beach.

Have fun introducing your little one to the waves.
