My DD is 7months old & is teething FIERCELY!!! She has her 2 lower central incisors, 1 lower lateral incisor & just got her 1 upper lateral incisor(she got last week)….BUT….She’s teething even worse this past week! She woke up yesterday w/what resembles a cold too! Runny nose, stuffy, coughs, sneezes like mad, and her sleeping is nonexistant! I was thinking it’s just b/c she’s teething.
I’ve tried: orajel, benadryl rubbed on gums, & motrin. Non of which seem to do anything for her. Is there anything else that I could try? She didn’t do well w/tylenol when she was smaller so I’m hesitant to try. Hylands teething tabs didn’t do anything for her either. I’m just at a loss! Also, do you think she may have a cold, or do you think these symptoms are probably more from the teething? Also, how long before the choppers pop through? She’s been teething for the past 2 weeks; got one upper a week ago & is now teething worse…could this mean they’re about to pop through soon?Plus, she has had the runniest poo lately. So much so that her heiney is raw & cont. to get aggravated every time she goes. So, obviously, i’ve stopped her emycin for dge. Doesn’t seem to be a problem at the moment.Any info would be great! Thanks!September 3, 2008 at 2:22 pm #56018AnonymousInactiveEvan is just getting over a cold… congestion (some runny nose too), cough, LOTS of sneezing, etc. We used the saline drops like they were going out of business & they helped SO much. We did them every 1-2 hrs & they cleared up his congestion so much. As far as the other stuff there’s not really much you can do if it’s a cold. We did run a Warm Steam vaporizer w/ the medicated Vicks liquid stuff in his room for 3 nights & that seemed to help a lot w/ the cough. Also, we let him sleep in his swing (he doesn’t stay on the elevated part in his crib) for the last 3-4 hrs each night when his congestion got really bad.
September 3, 2008 at 3:09 pm #56019AnonymousInactiveI was considering doing some type of humidifier but didn’t know what would be best. What type of warm steam vaporizer do you have and where did you buy it, if you don’t mind me asking?! What type of saline drops? How do you administer them??? As you can tell, I’ve never dealt w/them before and so I know nothing!
Also, kind of off topic…But…I saw that you’ve emailed Dr. Phillips in the past. Do you happen to still have his email address? I’ve been considering emailing him and asking for his advice and hopefully he would be willing to talk/email (whatever works) w/my DD’s Ped. Thanks!September 3, 2008 at 3:51 pm #56021AnonymousInactiveWe have the “Vicks Warm Steam Vaporizer”. I got it @ Target for around $15. You use “Vicks VapoSteam” liquid w/ it. You can get that @ Target as wel… or drugstores have it too. Just FYI: the instructions say to ask a dr. for under 2yo. I called my ped & he said it’s fine.
The saline drops w/ use are the “Little Noses” (by Little Remedies) Saline Spray/Drops. I’ve gotten these @ Target, the drugstore or the grocery store. I’ve also seen recipes before to make your own, but they’re not that expensive so I just buy them. You just put 2-6 drops in each nostril… be sure to do drops though (not spray) since they are young & also once when we accidently did the spray w/ Brodie he threw up immediately. It’s easiest to put them in while they are lying flat (like on the changing table).I put Dr. Phillip’s email in the other post but it’s: [email protected]HTH!September 3, 2008 at 3:58 pm #56022AnonymousInactiveerinntx ~THANKS A MILLION! I’ll be sure to ask the ped. tomorrow about the steam vaporizer & saline drops. I’ll be sure NOT to use the spray, poor guy.
Thanks also for the email address. Yes, I saw it in the other post AFTER I wrote this one. lol I just got finished sending him an email so hopefully it doesn’t take him too long to respond!
September 3, 2008 at 7:53 pm #56035hellbenntKeymasterI buy store brand saline drops (compare the ingredients- same thing as little noses) & squirt away…I don’t suction anything out – just let gravity do it’s thang
September 4, 2008 at 5:16 pm #56081AnonymousInactiveGot the vaporizer & saline drops(from the ped). We’ll try them out tonight. My ped. doesn’t think Averi has a cold, just seasonal allergies. So, if her runny nose doesn’t clear up in 7-10 days we’re to start Zyrtec. The pharmacist told me to suction, but I think I’ll just let it run. Plus, they gave me drops that can be sprayed or drops, and told me to spray…BUT AGAIN…I’m just gonna go w/the drops as per suggested! I’m not sure if her teething is starting to subside either. She seemed better today. So, I’ll be curious if anymore teeth pop through or if they’re stayin’ for a while longer. Only time will tell! Thanks for the suggestions! Hope they help her w/her breathing!

September 4, 2008 at 8:10 pm #56098AnonymousInactiveI was thinking maybe allergies too.. BUT, the runny poo makes me wonder a bit. .. although, that can be caused by teething as well.
Is she eating anything new? The sneezing, cold like symptoms and runny poo can be a sign of an allergy or intolerance to food as well.September 4, 2008 at 8:27 pm #56103AnonymousInactiveNaomi~ No, no new foods. She had her upper & lower endoscopies 2 weeks ago and after that her poo has been runny. She was also on emycin for DGE, but after the enema she got before her procedures, it doesn’t seem to be an issue. So, I’ve been alternating b/t rice & oatmeal and it seems to be helping her stools get to a better consistency. I’m wondering now if it IS a cold b/c now my 2yr old has a runny nose. Who Knows?! If it’s not one thing it’s another!

Yes, I would definitely just do drops & don’t suction. Glad you got the vaporizer & drops – hope your kiddos feel better soon… my boys are finally feeling better today (almost 2wks since the 1st one got the cold).erinntx2008-09-04 20:55:29

My kiddos have a cold too. Kylie had it first, then Nicholas got it. My sister is a NICU nurse and she sayd that there are lots of respiratory things going around (at least around here). They already have an RSV baby as well as one with pneumonia who had a lung collapse. And its only September.September 4, 2008 at 9:42 pm #56115AnonymousInactiveYikes! I’ll be keeping my kids indoors from now on! -
