Has anyone had the expeirence where teething was worse at night? I’m having a hard time getting my daughter to sleep at night. All she wants to do at bed time is chew on a teether. She’s not old enough yet to hold it, so me or my husband have to. If we take it out she just cries.
I’ve read some posts where people have recommended Hyland’s tablets. Does anyone know if that’s the same as Humphrey’s? I couldn’t find Hyland’s, so the pharmacist gave me humphreys, they are still homeopathic. What is it that they do? Stop pain? Numb gums???
How long are babies usually in pain and discomfort for before a tooth breaks through? My twins have been sucking their hands, drooling, and crying in pain for about a week now. Will I see teeth soon?

Logan finally got his two bottom teeth (at the same time, poor kid) on his 6 month b-day and Dakota’s two bottom just broke through yesterday. They have been teething since about 4 months old and they are just going on 7 months at the end of the month. So yes it can go for a long time before they actually show through. I haven’t noticed it worse at night except for reflux babies when they teeth, reflux seems to worsen. Mine only get worse at night teething wise when they are off on their medication not being the right dose for their weights. But at the same time it is also their reflux bothering them more. As for the Hyland’s I haven’t used them but from what I understand, they are the same has Humphrey’s. I did use the colic tabs from hylands and they worked for a while as far as colic goes. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.

There is also a hyland’s teething gel, that has worked wonders for us. None of hte other gels worked for my son. Also, when teethign is bad, it can make reflux ten times worse, and our ped nad ped gi confirmed this for us in several different visits. My ped okayed us to use hyland’s products, children’s or infant motrin, children’s or infant benadryl altogether to combat severe teething. We also used mylanta cherry supreme more often during teething episodes. I hope it gets better!

June 6, 2006 at 4:03 pm #9228hellbenntKeymasterhttp://www.askdrsears.com is great! it has dosing info for all over the counter meds, benedryl, tylenol, motrin, cough meds. etc for infants
benedryl helps bcse there are histamines in the drool that comes with teething and well, benedryl is an antihistimine
you can rub some on the gums and give orally
also helps w/ congestion…

Anyway, here’s the link for dosing on Benadryl. I read somewhere that over use can cause sleep disturbances and rebound nasal congestion, so probably should use it sparingly. It does work very well for bad colds (helps with congestion and sleep). I use it when Myles’ teething is at it’s worst; just when a tooth is breaking through. Helps with stuffy nose some babies get with teething (a histamine reaction) and helps them sleep on those tough days.
