InactiveAmelia started to throw what I think is a temper tantrum when I try to put her down for naps and at night for bed. My husband agrees. I think she recognizes when I am about to put her down… she starts throwing a fit when I give her the pacifier when we are in her room. This is even before I put her in her crib. Sometimes she will lay in her crib looking at me and kicking her legs in protest while fussing. Picking her up doesn’t make her stop crying, we actually have to take her out of the room! That is the only way she’ll stop! I have tried just comforting her while she is in the crib, it doesn’t work. My husband finally just let her cry in his arms in her room until she got worn out tonight. I had to leave the house. I am not one for CIO. I don’t feel that was truly CIO, however, because he was holding her. I am afraid that CIO may be the only solution and I am not open to it at this point. I do let her fuss and do some crying, but when it gets to a scream, I go in the room and comfort her. I have tried rubbing her back but when she throws these fits she is not receptive to anything. I am worn out, as this can happen several times a day! Any suggestions???

InactiveLet me add that it is very difficult to read Amelia’s sleepy signs. Sometimes she doesn’t have any at all until she is overtired. It is as though each nap/bedtime is different. Yesterday morning she put herself to sleep after about 20 minutes of fussing. She slept almost 2 hours… she normally only sleeps for 30 minutes! I repeated the exact same thing this morning, and she fussed until I rubbed her back in the crib and then fell asleep for only 30 minutes. Nothing seems to work more than once!

Keymasteris she still 6 months old? I find that Ari goes for his first nap one hour and 45minutes after waking up. he wakes up at 7am and then like clockwork, he’ll go for his nap at 8:45- sometimes as late as 9:15 but that’s it…
then his second nap is 1:15…so maybe see if it’s a certrain time after she wakes up? does she wake up the same time every day?I FEEL for you because Jonah was Sir No Nap. the LENGTHS I went through to get him to nap! and then it’d be only 30-45 minutes, ugh.All I can say is to try different things. who has time to read a book? I think Lori summarized all the different sleep methods somewhere- thinking as I type- I should have bookmarked it!!anyway, here are gentle sleep books: http://www.thebabywearer.com/cgi-bin/bookshop.pl?locale=us&cat=slJuly 13, 2007 at 3:47 pm #39164Anonymous
InactiveThanks, Laura! Amelia is 6.5 months old (sorry, just a little funny about posting her birthday on the internet).
The problem is a vicious cycle. She won’t nap long and at different times of the day so she is exhausted by 6 pm. We were putting her down at 6:30 but are trying to push her to 7 pm or later as she is still getting up most mornings between 4 and 5 am. She does go back to sleep after I feed her until 7 or 7:30 am. And so it goes… she doesn’t nap well and the day goes on from there with her being overtired and then falling asleep when I nurse her. She has been taking longer naps the last couple of days, and I think it’s because she’s been on her tummy. If she doesn’t nap well, she will sometimes be VERY fussy by 6 pm.She actually got up at 6:30 this morning
! I think I actually got 8 hours of sleep! I fed her and she went down again for another 1.5 hours! She has only napped once today for 45 minutes. I am trying to get her down again. Her bedtime was very regular until she had been getting exhausted earlier. Then it would be anywhere from 6-7:30. I think if we have a set bedtime over the next several nights it may regulate her. Thoughts anyone?July 13, 2007 at 5:56 pm #39180hellbennt
Keymasterseems like Ari is on the same schedule & he’s 6 months older, lol. bed at 6:45pm, up at 4 or 5am to feed, then up at 7am (I don’t nurse him then but he’s older- I used to) and I feed him breakfast, then nurse before nap at about 8:45am & he takes maybe an hour nap then I nurse him before nap at about 1:15 and he sleeps for a good stretch, then nurse at bedtime 6:45.
maybe this would work w/ you guys, lol! (with you nursing more times in the day I’d gues bcse of your baby’s age- I’m going back to work mid August so we’ll just nurse 2x a day then – I weaned jonah at 15 montsh- I bet this guy’ll be more like 18months? we’ll see…)July 13, 2007 at 9:17 pm #39193Anonymous
InactiveThanks Laura! Did Jonah ever start napping better? I have tried SOOOO many different things
! I think it’s best to try and read Amelia’s sleep cues, but that’s so hard to do with her. She doesn’t wake at the same time every morning either. I have tried getting her down 1 hour, 1.5 hours, and 2 hours after she wakes. I think I am going to start a sleep journal and record when she goes down. I may find that there’s more of a pattern than I think there is.I’m sorry you have to go back to work next month
. I know it will be hard leaving your sweeties! -
