1) is your baby on any meds at all? I’d address a ‘high’ PPI dose if he’s not taking a PPI or, if he’s on a low dose…After being on the board for two years now [at the time of this edit], I can tell you that you should ‘check’ your baby’s PPI dose, because oftentimes, it is NOT high enough to be effective!!!!
PPI dosing chart: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2668&a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;PN=1&TPN=1 and also look at http://www.marci-kids.com for dosing info
I would bring this info to the appt…
2) since you have eliminated all dairy & soy, including ‘hidden’ dairy and soy, & you’re breastfeeding, then I personally would want an endoscopy- they’ll look and see if there are any eos cells and if there are, this can indicate a protein allergy, as opposed to an intolerance to proteins. If there are no eos cells, then you can work on your diet some more to see if the mucous clears up…if there are eos cells and it is an actual allergy, rather than an intolerance, then I’d discuss what your choices are re: breastfeeding- HOWEVER, I’d cross that bridge if/when you (even) come to it…
if all medication routes have not been thoroughly tried, then I’d go that route before even considering giving up breastfeeding (again, no need to even go there!!)
3) I’d go full of knowledge regarding the difference b/t allergy & intolerance web site that gives the best explanation of food allergies/intolerance and its relation to reflux that I have found to date. http://www.disa.com.au/ go on the left to the menu & click on “Food Intolerant Allergic Baby”
and discuss the mucous & blood in stools…
here’s more to read: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2697&a mp;PN=1&TPN=1
4) If you’re not already, I would also get support from here as well:http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/breastfeedingreflux/
hope this helps,
