Just wanted to let anyone know if they were considering it….. we tried the
Tucker Sling last night for the first time….. We had ordered both the
Tucker Sling and the Amby Bed in hopes that one would help Isaac
sleep…..the Amby Bed did not help at all, and although it is advertised for
reflux, I didn’t think it kept him upright at all!
Now granted, this is only night 2 so I should not be overly excited, but
Isaac slept last night in the Tucker Sling from 8-3AM!!!! He has not been
able to sleep for more than like a half-hour at a time since his reflux
started! And now tonight, it is right now 11:30 and he went to bed at 8
and has not woken up yet! He also went to sleep on the wedge— rather
than me rocking, nursing, etc.. and putting him down when he was
already asleep.
So, if anyone was wondering about it….I”m a supporter so far!!!

Can you tell me if the wedge continued to work for you, and until what age
you think it is appropriate? I’m thinking of purchasing for my 5-month old.
We have an Amby bed, and it helped for a short time, but now we are back
to waking every 5-6 times per night.
Thanks,
Sarah
Dominic (3/17/06) Prilosec 14mg (day 4), Zantac 24mg
August 28, 2006 at 2:49 pm #12480AnonymousInactiveWe just stopped using the wedge/sling combo (Isaac is 6 months and 1 week….15 and a 1/2 lbs)…. but are still using the Tucker Sling. We purchased the next size up sling… and it just goes on his crib matress now instead of a wedge, and we have the crib mattress elevated by putting a few pillows underneath the head. It still works great!!!! We don’t have it as elevated as the wedge was, but still pretty elevated. It was a lifesaver for us! And this new size sling looks like it will probably fit him until he doesn’t need to be elevated anymore.
Let me know if you have any other questions…..

August 28, 2006 at 2:53 pm #12483AnonymousInactiveim thinking about getting the sling too…
it goes for $50, right?
August 28, 2006 at 2:59 pm #12484AnonymousInactiveI think it was like $60 or something like that… worth every penny!
August 28, 2006 at 3:27 pm #12487AnonymousInactiveThanks Robyn,
I think we’ll try it. I was worried that maybe Dominic is too old for it, after
reading one of the testimonials. He’s not rolling over yet (still arching too
much), and loves being swaddled, so maybe it will be the miracle cure I
hoped the Amby would be (ha!). I’ll be happy if he just starts sleeping a 4-
hour stretch again.

August 28, 2006 at 3:40 pm #12491AnonymousInactiveGood luck Sarah! I hated the Amby… never worked for Isaac. WE also used to swaddle Isaac in the Tucker Sling… we dont’ need to anymore, I think he feels safe and secure right in the sling. He does roll over and stuff when playing (when he can tolerate being on back and stomach), but I just don’t think he associates that with sleeping.
What meds is he on? I know that Isaac didn’t sleep well until he meds were right (as right as it seems they’ll be) too. The Tucker sling helped, but the meds still needed to be right. Keeping him upright helped tremendously with coughing!

August 28, 2006 at 6:22 pm #12497AnonymousInactiveWe just started Prilosec, this is day 4. The GI said we didn’t need to
continue the Zantac while waiting for it to kick in. After all I’ve learned on
this board, I decided to do it anyway, but last night the timing didn’t work
out and he didn’t get it. He woke up screaming at 11pm, at which time I
gave it to him and even upped his dose (he’s on a low dose in my opinion,
and has outgrown it in any case for sure). I’m sure you’re right about
sleep not being a likelihood until the meds are right.
I think his dosage of Prilosec is also low (it’s hard for me to crunch the
numbers in my sleep deprived fog), although the GI gave a higher starting
dose than he normally would have, because I asked. I’m doubtful it will
be enough, but feel like we need to give it a go before I ask again.
Dominic is 16 pounds. I did like the GI–I went in prepared to fight, and
still be disappointed, but he really did inspire confidence compared to
what I was expecting. He said if the Prilosec doesn’t work, we can try
Prevacid or Zegerid, and it sounds like he will up the dose if things don’t
work out. He is very young, and I think that may be in our favor!
August 28, 2006 at 6:28 pm #12500AnonymousInactivethat dose of prilosec does sound low-maybe you can show the doc the marci-kids.com dosing calculator?
August 29, 2006 at 9:55 am #12533AnonymousInactiveAre you going to sell the amby? If so for how much? We are wanting to buy an amby, but hopeing to not have to pay full price. We have been looking on e-bay and might buy from there.
August 29, 2006 at 12:23 pm #12546AnonymousInactiveWe would like to sell our Amby and just haven’t gotten around to dealing with it yet.. Isaac used it for only 5 nights. If you’re interested, feel free to email me ([email protected]) I”m not sure if we are allowed to discuss that stuff as part of the forum….

August 29, 2006 at 2:23 pm #12569AnonymousInactiveNatalia, I know that you mentioned in another post that you qualify for WIC. I don’t know exactly what that is (as I’m from Canada) and I don’t know if it’s the same thing as something called “medicaid”. Again, please forgive me if I sound ignorant, but our health care system is very different.
I’m just posting because when I was looking around for something for Hailey to sleep in, I called the companies that make a lot of these products directly. I was told that some insurance companies and “medicaid” consider the tucker sling and wedge to be a certified medical device and will pay for it with a script. The owner of the comfy lift bed company also told me that there product is now considered under the same classifications and that medicaid will pay for it.
August 29, 2006 at 2:49 pm #12571AnonymousInactiveWIC provides formula-stands for women infants and children.
medicaid is medical insurance provided by the state-which we have for my son.
so youre saying medicaid would cover the sling and wedge if i had a prescription?!!! WOW!!!
that would be a dream-as i cant afford to buy it for him right now!
August 29, 2006 at 2:58 pm #12572AnonymousInactiveI don’t know for sure for the sling and wedge. I think that’s what I remember, but you should definitely call and ask. I DO REMEMBER for sure that when I talked to the owner of the comfy lift bed, he said that it is now being covered as a certified medical device by medicaid. Good luck.
August 29, 2006 at 3:05 pm #12573AnonymousInactivei was just looking at pictures of that bed. it doesnt seem like it keeps them that elevated-does it?
