to outgrow or not outgrow???

Those of you whp have children who have outgrown reflux, what age did that occurr??

Those who had dge, did your child ever outgrow it??

The gi is telling me that if she has not outgrown silent reflux and dge by 10-11 months, that she will not outgrow it and that she’ll need a fundo……

Does that seem right???????

Alexis did not outgrow it until 15 months but I had to restart her medications for reflux at 18 months due to severe refluxing because of her teething. Sometimes kids do not outgrow it until they are much older, there are some on the forum that are 2 or 3 years old that have not outgrown it but it is controlled by medications. It is quite extreme to get a fundo!

Luke was able to go off meds at 9 months, but still refluxed here and there until a year. Justice was med free at 9 months and I think he fully outgrew it then too. So, that being said I wouldn’t worry yet. I know that is easier said then done.

We were also lucky in that Alana outgrew it early- 9 months. She still occasionally reflux…I mean at most once a week, but I figure so do I when I eat to much! Unless there is a FTT issue (or other medical issues) I would be really hesitant to accept a fundo at that age, given so many bubs are still on meds into there second and third years.

my son is one and a half and still has reflux. many children outgrow reflux between 1-3 years old. i do not agree with what your doctor said. our gi’s daughter grew out of her reflux at age 5.

Not sure if I’m remembering all the details, hopefully I have the numbers right…

Our GI told us something like this: most kids with reflux outgrow it from age 9-12 months. Of the remaining children, 90 percent will outgrow it from ages 12-24 months (these are typically the MSPI kids). Of the remaining children, 5 percent will outgrow it and 5 percent will have it for life. Of the 5 percent that have it for life, it’s usually due to persistent allergies.

My daughter is over 2 and hasn’t outgrown it yet. With the dge, our ped says that this is often the most persistent part of the reflux. He said that when the GI system is damaged, it often becomes slower.

We’re still hopeful.

Our older children DID outgrow the reflux. At that time, we were not told to avoid any foods – 10-15 years ago – so had we avoided milk, they may have outgrown it sooner. Talon outgrew his bad symptoms by 3 1/2 and Jeremy (I think was around 2 1/2) but some of that is a blur. Carson is over 2 and I truly believe he will outgrow his reflux. His symptoms are not as bad when he has been avoiding any allergy foods.

I would think by 3 he will be much better. He is only 22 pounds and 25 months old but slowly but surely we see light a few times a week.

Keep your chin up. It is a hard road to walk and hopefully you are not walking alone. Eventually you will have more good days than bad and eventually you will feel confident enough to lessen the meds and eventually it will work when you do lessen the meds! Lots of trial and error. Lots of love and hugs and tears.

jonah outgrew it at 12 months- well, we were able to take him off of prevacid at 12 months but he still got zantac as needed and tums- up to 3 yrs old he still got tums – not frequently, but not rarely, lol. now he’s 4 & I still give him tums if i hear him ‘glerping’- at this point its usually when he’s hysterically crying/swallowing lots of air…he also doesn’t like tomato sauce & I think maybe it bothers him…but anyway, I think that lots outgrow reflux earlier rather than later, but they’re not here posting…

Isaac still has reflux at over 2yrs old and our GI said that at 3 or 4 yrs old we will discuss fundo but until then the medicine does fine
