InactiveAny suggestions…Lucas is refusing his probiotics…a VERY two year old thing to do it seems, but they are ESSENTIAL to his treatment.
I’ve been mixing the powder with water and giving via syringe, do you think mixing with something else and giving through a cup or something might work better??
He’s 20 mos old and asserting himself these days! I have no experience with refusal of meds since he went off compounded prevacid at 8 mos!!!

InactiveWe put Marisa’s probiotics in her formula. Does Lucas drink any rice
milk or the like? Otherwise, yes – definitely mix into something yummy
that you know he’ll eat!June 10, 2006 at 6:43 am #9497Anonymous
InactiveA agree with the above. Unfortunately, I have WAY to much experience with med refusal from both my kids, but no solutions other than mix it into something yummy, or pin them down with the syringe!…. the first is much more fun. When Sarah was a bit older we bought one of those medicine spoon type things and added a bit of juice to it- we called it “medicine juice”, since she was big into the idea of juice. She really got a kick of the fact that she could give it to herself, and that was the end of the refusal for her (but she doesn’t have any feeding issues, she’s just a strong willed child that needed lots of meds). She also liked the idea of one of those little medicine cups but that was too messy, which is why the spoon thing worked so well for her- they’re so big on independence at that age. Good luck. I hope you find a way to get him to take it. Med refusal is the worst- I DREAD med time with Hailey every day and actually worry about it a fair bit.s&h’s mum2006-6-10 6:43:52

InactiveAnne,
We switched to a medicine cup for meds and it is messy but that is pretty much the only way she’ll take anything. Nice to see you around, hope you guys are doing great otherwise!

InactiveThanks so much, guys. I added the probiotics to his rice milk before bed last night and he sucked it right down. I really like the med cup and spoon ideas, though. I’m sure this won’t be the last time we’ll deal with this, as independance issues are cropping up all over the place these days! Thanks for all your thoughts…. Some good news– Lucas slept 11 hours without waking or nursing last night. This is the best night we’ve EVER had. Just had to share!
Stacey…good to see you too!
