InactiveYou know I didn’t mention it before, but my son also has torticollis…is that somehow related to reflux? I have recently read online that many babies with torticollis also have reflux.
For those who don’t know, torticollis is just when one side of the neck has shorter muscles than the other, often caused by the baby’s position inutero. It causes the baby to tilt his head a little to one side rather than holding it straight.
We are doing the stretching exercises to lengthen those muscles, but I’m just curious if any of you know of a correlation between this and reflux.
Thanks!

InactiveI’ve heard that there is a connection, but for us it was my only non-reflux baby who had torticollis.

Keymasterthere was a definite connection w/ this w/ jonah-
he had Sandifer’s Syndrome symptoms & one of the symptoms is torticollis…so when his reflux was under control, his torticollis went away…

InactiveOur ped just has us doing stretching exercises with him. I’ve noticed improvement, but it’s not completely gone. Should we be seeing a pt? I’ve read that it’s important to get it corrected by age 1.

InactiveWe just did stretching exercises with Liza, no PT, but maybe her case was mild.

InactiveChristine,
When you did notice that it was gone? We’ve been doing the stretching for about a month now, and it’s much better but still noticable sometimes.
Thanks

InactiveIf I am remembering correctly we started the exercises right after her two month check up and by her 4 month check up she was fine.

When is he due for his next check up?

InactiveHe will go in for his 6 month in May. We started the exercises after his 4 month – in March. We really didn’t notice it until then (even our ped didn’t see it). Caden’s is kind of mild I guess…

InactiveI’d just keep an eye on it and maybe bring him in sooner if you don’t think it’s continually improving. Mainly they told me to watch that she was turning her head in both directions and that the exercises were getting easier as the stiffness improved.
Does he mind the exercises? Liza hated them initially but she got used to them and I think it got easier as the torticollis improved.
