InactiveSo i called the pedi today about upping my son’s dosage of prevacid to the marci-kids recommendations and they acted like I was crazy! They said he is on the exact correct dosage for his age and weight….I said well how can that be possible if at 3 months my daugther weiged half of what my son weighs and she was on the same dose?? They wouldn’t even look at the Marci kids info….she told me that adding 5mg wouldn’t make a difference anyways. I told her it would make a difference to me if my son wasn’t screaming at 3am and not able to sleep bc he hurt…they aslo said sandifers is no big deal its just his body trying to deal with the pain. Well exactly, why don’t we up his dose and just see if he is better? Now I am on the hunt for a new pedi, one that will even listen would be nice.

InactivePrevacid capules are going OTC this week. Go to prevacids website to learn how to administure the capsules… If you think the increased dosage will help.vigilantmom2009-11-12 17:26:50

Keymasterto give the capsules, (NOT SURE if this applies to the new OTC ones) you break open the cpasules and divide up the beads into two portions/doses.
you give one dose in the am & one in the pm
you give on an empty stomach
you ‘feed’ the beads from the capsule w/ a teaspoon of applesauce (this is the ‘right’ amount of acidity to do what needs to be done)then you follow w/ a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later

InactiveUGH! That makes me so mad!! Don’t give up, keep doctor shopping until you find a good doc. And I know that this is sketchy, but when Hailey’s doc would only give 24mg and I wanted 30, we left him to get another opinion. Then I told that doc that she was on 30mg and it seemed to be helping her, so he continued the script. That’s how she ended up on 30mg. Good luck… I swear we saw every doc in the city before we finally got there.

InactiveI know this thread is old but I’m having this exact same problem. My 6 week old is suffering because my ped GI refuses to up his dosage from 7.5 mgs once per day. Keeps insisting he’s on the max for his weight/age. I found another gi dr and am HOPING/PRAYING she’ll up the dose. We see her thrus.

InactiveGood luck on Thurs! I sent our GI a copy of all the marci-kids info before our appt. She read it over and while she thought it was a really high dose, agreed to let us try the max dose-which I had already started doing on my own. It was nice to have her “blessing.” Now she is fine with it since I told her how well he is doing since we upped it.
Maybe you can fax the info since your appt is so soon?Best of luck! -
