Triaminic strips for cold

Great question! Unfortunately we’re in the same boat. Our sitter uses the strips for her 2 year old and swears by them…I didn’t even think about giving Sarah one! I have been giving Sarah benadryl and that has helped temporarily…but an alternative would be nice. Good luck!

i would stick with the benadryl, if it were me. there are decongestant ingredients in the cold meds that are pretty controversial regarding babies…the fda is considering pulling cold meds for all kids under age 6.

For Ari’s last cold I tried a more ‘natural’ remedy (along with the benedryl) and I used a natural kind of vick’s vapor rub- it was gentle enough to put on his cheeks (they were chapped) & under his nose

Adriana just got over a bad cold. I used Benedryl at night a couple of nights which didn’t do much. I was too scared to use anything else and my doctor told me not to because those other cold meds have not been tested on children this young.

I tried Tylenol for any body aches but as soon as she would swallow it she would projectile vomit everywhere.

Basically I used a humidifier, some vicks type of rub for her chest and back, and I slept holding her upright in a chair for several nights. She could not sleep laying down.

Well, I tried the strip this morning, and boy do I regret it. Wound him right up. He didn’t go down for a nap until 2! And I don’t think it helped with the congestion that much anyway.. sticking to the benedryl from now on.. at least that will help him sleep.

I’ll look into the vapor rub too.

Ok, so maybe it wasn’t the strips… he is currently in his bed, talking and has been for over an hour!!!! I don’t know if it’s the cold that’s making it difficult for him to sleep or what. I’ve been giving him Benedryl before his afternoon nap and at night. I didn’t want to give it to him in the morning too, but maybe I need to so he can get some rest.

Myles is often very wakeful and talkative in his crib when he is teething or when he’s sick. I think it’s just hard for them to relax and fall asleep when they are uncomfortable from a cold.

Also, I think sometimes when you use benedryl for a few days they start to have some trouble falling asleep without that drug induced drowsiness.

I wondered about him getting “addicted” to that drowsiness before sleep. hmmmm… maybe I’ll try to skip the benedryl tomorrow and see what happens. I just want to give him some relief!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Liza’s been hacking all night and keeping everyone up. Elie’s stuffy and sneezing all night, and Myles has an ear infection and now a cold starting. It just never ends.
