i was on this mission with my son as welll… but it was never this bad.
sienna is a happy baby. but she silent refluxes CONSTANTLY. she will toss and turn and squirm and gulp while sleeping maybe every minute!! and naps end up being interupted the entire time until she gives up.we are doing prevacid…axid… mylanta with NO help whatsoever.so ped gi moved us to neocate along with meds.am i chasing after something that cant be solved until she “grows” out of it?? or is this treatable whilt having reflux??in other words .. should i expect peaceful sleep from her .. since the meds wont stop the refluxing .. just any pain.thoughts???February 6, 2009 at 1:54 pm #60832AnonymousInactiveI don’t know a great answer – just wondered if you’re inclining her sleep at all (w/ a wedge or maybe in the swing).
ETA: oh, & also keeping her upright for 20-30min after feedings.

Although he doesn’t cry much-he is fussy/squirmy all the time even on meds-I tend to think he will only gets relief once he outgrows it. I was thinking about trying him on alimentum for a few days to see if that helps-he is BF’d. He sleeps in a stroller which helps a little but he still refluxes.

Our speech therapist recommended thickening to help the feeds stay down a little better (we also have dysphagia so we had to thicken to avoid aspiration). She couldn’t believe how much she was refluxing and how much was getting caught in the back of her throat. Addie always sounded like she needed to clear her throat.
We add 1 teaspoon of Earth’s Best rice cereal per ounce of formula. Because she also has a feeding aversion, the therapist wanted us on rice rather than simply thick (or another thickening agent) to add food calories. She cautioned us against Gerber, Beechnut (can have trace amts. of soy/milk even though it isn’t on the label), or any rice with absorbic acid (labled as Vitamin C) because it will exacerbate reflux. We give 1/4 teaspoon mylanta before the feeds when she is not getting her formula to keep gas away and help avoid constipation. It’s been about 3 weeks and so far, so good. Of course, I would recommend seeing your doc to be sure thickening is right for your baby.Addie was born 12/12/08 and is also on Neocate and the MARCI dose of prevacid. She takes 2, 2 hour naps (one in the morning, one in the afternoon) and one 1 hour nap in the late afternoon in her swing and sleeps (in her crib) from 8 p.m. (dreamfeed at 10:30 – also gets her last dose of prevacid) wakes for 3 a.m. feed and goes back down until around 7:30 a.m. Of course, we too have everything at an incline, etc. etc.
Good luck!!!

will tell you how much she is actually refluxing- how often and how long each ‘episode’ is…might be useful information?September 7, 2009 at 7:31 pm #63823AnonymousInactiveMy DD is very similar. However we found that the Simply Thick and the Losec she was on at the time made it much worse – seems she couldn’t tolerate them for some reason. She’s been on Zantac which has been much better but just recently has started silent refluxing much more again. It’s not causing pain but wakes her up from naps all day long. I think it’s because she’s starting to take larger volumes of milk which makes her tummy fuller and more prone to refluxing. We’ve tried Prevacid – didn’t work. We elevate her and she still refluxes. I totally know how frustrating this is. I worry about her not getting the sleep she needs (and she’s really cranky). I’m on MSPI with no real change that I’ve noticed so I may go off the diet to save my own sanity. Please let me know if you discover anything helpful and I’ll do the same.
September 8, 2009 at 3:36 pm #63830AnonymousInactivetummy sleeping is better for reflux, too.
September 17, 2009 at 3:42 pm #63914AnonymousInactivemy DD squirmed and gruntedd and moved constantly in her sleep (nights and days). She hardly slept, and so was I. That was before prevacid. What I found help was to let her sleep on her tummy ontop of me (so I can keep my eyes on her). Maybe you can try this while you’re resting. And as she get used to sleeping on her tummy, maybe you can try to change her sleeping position.
