InactiveI am really at my wits end over here!
Ryder has been on so many medications and we were doing quite well on the Axid, but the past 2-3 weeks or so he has been miserable.
At first I thought it was due to getting shots then time passed and we were still having issues. So then I thought it was teeth. Yes he is teething but he is still a mess even when I give him tynol and I have tried the teething tablets too.
I called the GI dr and he upped his meds of Axid. The thing that bothers me is the fact that Ryder has never had any testing done other then the test that showed that he had blood in his stool.
I am just worried that it’s something else. we know he is allergic to Soy and dairy. which I am no longer eating, but maybe it’s something else.
He pulls off the breast when he is eating and will cry and get frustrated. It seems to go in cycles some days good someday bad. Plus he is not sleeping well at all. He was sleeping 4-6 hours and now 3sometime 2!!
What would you do? Do you think its something other then relfux?

Inactiveit def. sounds like he is in pain from reflux. h2 blockers like axid are very weight sensitive and many babies do ok on them at first but later they require PPI’s.
i would ask your doc about a PPI for sure.also, teething agrivates reflux.September 26, 2006 at 2:59 pm #14318Anonymous
InactiveMy daughter plateaued on her Zantac (an h2 blocker like Axid) dose and no longer got relief. I didn’t know about PPI’s then so things never got better with her until she outgrew it. With Myles I was fortunate to have found this site and I asked for a PPI medication for him. Once his dose of Prevacid was right he did great! The feeding difficulties stopped and his chronic irritablitly stopped.
The cycle thing makes me suspicious that something else may be bothering him, too. Have you tried an elimiation diet? Some babies who can’t tolerate dairy cannot tolereate beef as well. Plus there are many other foods that can cause a reaction.
I’d probably try an elimiation diet AND ask for a PPI medication like Prevacid or Zegerid. http://www.marci-kids.com has some valuable information about these meds.
Good luck.
