InactiveHello everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but wanted to catch up with everyone again. Lucas is 3 1/2, still on Zegerid, still on a restricted diet with no beef and gluten. We’re starting cheese and some cheeses are great, some not so great. It’s nice to think one day dairy might be completely open to him. He’s thriving, loves preschool and is a true joy.
In fact, with a few months of better sleep (waking once a night mostly) and a year of no breastfeeding or restricted diet for me….we decided to take the plunge and have another one!! I’m due in mid-September. I’ve just finished a pretty yucky first trimester, but am looking foward to feeling better. I honestly have to thank everyone on this forum for your words about children, because I really wasn’t sure I could ever have another one after what we went through. I know that might sound dramatic, but I wasn’t sure I was cut out to do this again. Now, I feel cautiously optimistic about a new baby….I feel like if it’s normal and healthy it might seem like a piece of cake in comparison to Lucas’ first two years…..and if there are health issues– well, at least we’ve been there once and somehow survived and I’m sure we’ll survive again. In general, I’m very excited and am obviously hoping that all will go much smoother the second time around. Lucas will be turning four around the time the baby is born, so I feel like that age difference will also help me out a bit. He’ll be in preschool four mornings a week. He’s very excited to be a big brother.Again, I have to say that I thought of several of you many many times over the last years and also more recently when i was posting less and considering having another one. This forum saved my sanity and probably my marriage and several other things….. and also played a role in helping me realize that I shouldn’t let fear keep me from having another child if that is what we wanted. So, I have to again say thank you to everyone and let you know what a special role you’ve played in my life.I hope everyone’s kiddos are feeling better, getting off meds, sleeping better or sleeping GREAT, and that all is well. Please let me know how you and your families are doing.love and hugs!March 7, 2008 at 2:37 pm #48888Anonymous
InactiveCongrats on the new little one! It’s always excting and nerve wracking I think, until they are in your house, you just don’t know how it will go! I’ve enjoyed reading your posts, although I only joined about 1 yr ago. Glad to hear that things are on the up and up and that you are sleeping! Sleep makes everyone happy!!!!
I wish you a happy, healthy reflux/MSPI free baby! I have had 1 of each although my first was the easy one! I commend you on having another as I know it has to be a hard decision! Good luck to you and hope to hear more soon! Either way I’m sure you will be well prepared!March 7, 2008 at 3:17 pm #48890Anonymous
InactiveAnne!!!
… What a great surprise to log on here and see an update from you…. and such a great update nonetheless! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I’m SO SO happy for you and dh, and will be praying for the best for you and the newest addition to your family. (I actually just clapped when I read that you’re expecting….)I’ve thought of you many times over the past while and wondered how you and Lucas were doing. Your story and support honestly offered me hope that we would one day get through things and that I would have a child who slept. In the middle of December we took the plunge and moved Hailey to her own room. It certainly wasn’t easy, but also wasn’t as extreme as some of the behavioural stuff that you went through with Lucas when you made the switch. But, it did involve a fair amount of crying and clinginess during the day, as well as a LOT of nightwaking. Thankfully, that’s tapered off a bit, and we’ve even had a fair number of nights without any wakings. Typically there’s at least 1 waking, sometimes as many as 3-4, but typically they’re quick and she just needs some reassurance. It’s been 3 months now since she’s been in her own room, and dh moved back in about a month ago. That’s been a learning curve for us as well, and we’re now getting used to each other’s nighttime quirks again. I think for us, we’re probably not going to have any more kids, though part of me really would like one more, the rational part of me says to be thankful for our two, and spend the rest of the time enjoying them. That being said, I think that we’re going to have to make the decision final very soon, either way.Hailey turns 3 in May, and we’re now contemplating a med wean. She’s been on 15mg prevacid for over a year and so I’m considering taking the plunge, though absolutely petrified. I always worry about causing a feeding aversion to resurface. As for her eating, she’s been off bottles for a while now, and relies solely on what she’ll take in orally. She likes the thought of eating, but is very fussy and eats much like a bird. She takes a few bites of this and that and then calls it a meal, and her new thing is that she only wants to eat thing in nugget form. She’s been holding her weight, but has only gained about a pound in almost a year. She is getting taller, though is still short, and is such a funny, adorable, sweet little girl who we all love to pieces. Sarah just made note to me as few days ago that Hailey doesn’t look like a baby anymore, and asked me if I’d have another baby. I had to laugh… such a simple thing in her mind.Anyhow, thanks so much for the update and for all that you did for Hailey and I since we met on this site. I consider myself so blessed to have found people like you along our journey.Keep in touch. I hope that the remainder of your pregancy is easy. HUGS.s&h’s mum2008-03-07 15:21:03

InactiveHi gals,
Thanks for all your encouraging words!Lori, I hope the sleep is continuing to get better. I’ve noticed that although I thought once a night was a piece of cake before being pregnant, it’s sort of a different story now. I’m actually taking out the dairy again because I am suspecting it might be part of our continued night wakings, even though it tends to be only once a night. We had a week or so without dairy and at elast three nights of uninterrupted sleep, it was like heaven. My patience is thinner with this right now….I’m sure due to hormones and my own tiredness.I’m so thrilled to hear that Hailey is in her room and your dh is back in your room! It was also a learning curve for us, my dh was very comfy sleeping spread eagle in the bed, taking up every inch while I was gone, adn I can’t say he missed me all too much some nights! haha. But it seems things are more in their rightful place so to speak, now, at least I begin the night in our room. We went through a phase where Lucas came into our room every night and finished the night with us, but then we were all sleeping so poorly that we told him he can’t come into our room until the sun comes up. This means one of us still heads into his room when he wakes up. Many nights its crying still and now he talks about nightmares and being scared of monsters when we get in there. It seems to never end, right? Well, I’m hoping that my week of no dairy that had half the nights with no wakings is telltale for how it could be without dairy again. It’s hard to take cheese away after he’s decided he loves it, but I’m going to try anyway. We all need to sleep! Who knew I’d still be experimenting at age 3 1/2! I’m just WAY more relaxed about it now, with the luxury of more rest and a lot more sleep than i ever got before. Well, I could go on and on, but hope all is well. Thanks for your sweet note. -
