Upping dose, when do you see improvement?

My daughter has been on Prevacid solutabs since she was 2 months old. Her dose was 1/2 tab twice a day (15 mg total). Her symptoms improved while on this dose, but her sleeping habits did not. Fast forward to now. She’s 18 months and was still on the same dose. Still sleeping like a newborn (waking up every 2 hours wanting to nurse). I found this website and after reading that she was probably undermedicated (marci-kids dosing), I convinced my pediatrician to up her dose, which he did to 15 mgs twice a day (30 mgs total). He was not happy about increasing her dose, saying he thought her waking up during the night was out of habit and that I need to let her CIO. I really don’t want to do the CIO method because I’m unsure whether she’s in pain from reflux or not.

Anyway, my question is: when upping the dosage, when do you expect to see improvement, if there is going to be any? Does it take the full 2 weeks like when they’re first put on a PPI? She’s been on this new dose for 5 days now and it *seems* like her sleeping has improved somewhat (she’s sleeping in longer stretches, but by no means sleeping through the night). She’s decided she’s going to start teething again at this time too, so I can add this in to the mix of is it reflux, teething or just habit. Ugh.

When do you know that the new dose works???????

you would know in a few days I would think.
teething definitely can make things worse, all the extra saliva, etc.
try rubbing some benedryl on her gums- it’s an antihistimine & the extra saliva has histimines in it….

are you giving the solutab on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later- just checking-

yes, I’m following the 30 minute rule.

So if it takes only a few days, then I guess the little improvement I’ve seen is what I’m going to get?

I’ve never heard of rubbing Benedryl on gums before for teething. Good to know!

You know, I did at the very beginning, but my pediatrician basically poo-pooed me. I asked about a possible milk allergy (grasping at any straw I could at the time to make the reflux better), but he said no.

However, that being said, my daughter has terrible constipation requiring daily maintenance dose of Miralax, has had multiple ear infections that finally required tubes (which took care of the infections for now) and she itches her nose and eyes a lot when breastfeeding (I haven’t noticed it while eating solids though). she’s never had any rashes of any kind, but does seem to have occasional hay fever/allergies. We’ve tried Zyrtec for allergies, but had to stop because it made it almost impossible for her to fall asleep for some reason. So when she has hay fever/allergies, I give her Benedryl which helps.

So if it was a milk allergy, what do I do? I’m not a big milk drinker, but it’s almost impossible not to eat anything that doesn’t contain at least a little milk in it. I know that it can take a couple weeks for the milk to clear out of your system. I would have no idea what to eat in that time frame that doesn’t have milk it it. Any ideas? or posts that you can help steer me towards for a milk elimination diet? Thanks!

you might want to try eliminating milk and soy? or just milk…
