My breastfed 3 & 1/2 month old has been randomly vomiting up
feedings since he was a couple of weeks old. Lately it’s been either
throwing up straight after or in the middle of a feed.. or he’ll throw
up a whole hour after a feed. Sometimes he’ll go a couple of days
without throwing up.. sometimes he’ll throw up 2-3 times in a day. It
seems to be a combination of an overactive let down on my part
(although this has settled down a bit and is not too bad), an easy gag
reflex on his part and maybe a bit of reflux. I’m so confused because
all these different websites have so many different scenarios and
possibilities as to what it could actually be. He was born a healthy 9
pounds and is now 15 pounds.. so there’s definitely no problem with
his weight. He does not seem upset or in pain when he throws up.
I’ve tried everything – burping every 3-5 minutes, having him more
upright when feeding, leaving him a little upright after feeding and
from the beginning he’s only fed off one breast at a time. He’s now
teething so he’s constantly got his fingers in his mouth.. and
because of his seemingly easy gag reflex this makes him throw up.
He also will randomly be kind of fussy at the breast – pulling away
and crying, and kicking his legs – but still going back for the nipple.
Any ideas, or help would be greatly appreciated.. Of course, my
pediatrician has told me that he’ll ‘grow out of it’.. but when?
