Weaning from Prevacid

For those of you who have weaned from prevacid, how long was the weaning process? My little girl has gone from 30 mg to only 22.5 mg for the last two weeks (and is absolutely fine-no signs of reflux). I’d like to try 15 mg for the next two weeks to see how it goes but don’t want to push her too much. We stopped cold turkey one time before (from 20 mg to 0) and after two weeks she “crashed”.

Our situation is a little different than most people. In the middle of the weaning process, we were also trying to decipher all of Kaelyn’s allergy issues. She also had several colds and teething issues get in the way. So, we went from 22.5 to 15 and stayed there for about 3 months. Then we did 15 to 7.5 for about 2 weeks. I think a 2 week schedule sounds pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the replies. Our ped GI wanted to take her off prevacid altogether (cold turkey) next month and replace it with Zantac. I wasn’t so crazy about that idea because she has never been on Zantac and I don’t know what her reaction would be. I’d rather wean off prevacid gradually.

Did you ever find that as you lowered the dose, the baby started sleeping like a log???? My daughter is napping great all of a sudden (this has never happened before), and although I’d like to believe it’s other factors, I just wonder if the prevacid was bothering her tummy somewhat and keeping her awake… (Don’t get me wrong – the prevacid made a HUGE difference for her reflux/overall disposition).

I noticed no change whatsoever when we weaned my dd from Prevacid. She was only on a 15 mg dose though, we did a trial of 22.5 mgs for a few weeks but then just weaned right back down. It would not surprise me in the least that it may have been bothering her tummy at a high dose.

We were also advised by Hailey’s Ped to quit Prevacid cold turkey but instead took the advise of the moms on this board and did a two week weaning.

We noticed HUGE jumps in development after weaning from Prevacid. Could be coincidence, but we also had huge set back when we tried to go back on 8 months later.

Also, would not have survived without the prevacid when Dylan was little, but we did notice differences when we were off the med……
