I feel like one of those commercials:
“We went away for vacation and I saw a photo of me in a bathing suit and right there and then I realized that I need to lose weight!”
Ack.
So, I’ve done WW in the past…any good tips?
what do you eat for breakfast?
for lunch, I can eat a lean cuisine that has the points right on the box– I always add a gladware 4oz container of frozen veggies to it, to make it bigger (so that adds a point) and then I have an apple or something (another point I think)…dinner, well, let’s just say my biggest downfall is portion control
The good thing about me is that I have such good self-esteem that I haven’t been bothered w/ my weight, ROTFLMAO
..until that photo…December 28, 2009 at 12:15 pm #65255AnonymousInactivehide the photo???
i’ve been putting on weight, too. i think it’s the new antidepressants. hmmmm, depression or weight?…..it’s almost a hard decision since weight can be so depressing!!!!!!December 28, 2009 at 1:02 pm #65257AnonymousInactive“The good thing about me is that I have such good self-esteem that I haven’t been bothered w/ my weight, ROTFLMAO”
I’m right there with you, Sister!!! LOL!
Portion is my issue, too…I just came off some meds that PACK on the pounds, so I am glad to get off of it (took me a long time as I had bad reactions when weaning), but now, working out a bit more as I just LOVE to eat. I grew up in a very italian family (my mother was a Muscolino) and all home made foods and all very good, so food is a big center of holidays, celebrations, etc… and I have a very big family…. OK, now rambling~ soI have been loosing little by little by just adding 30 mins on the treadmill every day and eating a bowl of cereal for breakfast, and eggs with dry toast for lunch and then not restricting myself at dinner. I don’t snack in between and I cut out all sugar drinks, (I am doing water only) Not sure if that would work for all but when you have a lot of weight to loose like I do, then the small changes make a big difference in the beginning. For Breakfast, you could do a fruit/yogurt smoothie, and get in some fruits and milks, or you could do one egg, one piece of whole wheat toast, a piece of fruit and a V8….I think that is only like 3 points and that should fill you up (1 for toast, 1 for egg, 1 for fruit, and zero for v8 if you only drink 4 or 5 oz)…..I know we started something on the board at one time, but it was really hard to keep up….too bad we didn’t have skype or something so we could meet once a week and keep each other honest, KWIM?December 28, 2009 at 1:06 pm #65258AnonymousInactiveI have done WW successfully several times and will be started again sometime SOOOON. I can only use that “just had a baby excuse” for so long! LOL!
Some of my staple foods when doing WW…egg beaters (1pt), oscar meyer microwave bacon (in the yellow box), granola bars (2pts), frozen meals, low cal bread (1pt for 2 slices), tootsie rolls (for a quick chocolate fix), baked chips, popcorn, veggies (free!), spray butter, jello (free!), 60 cal pudding packs, spaghetti w/ fiber enriched pasta, oh I also made my own little pizzas with low cal/fiber enriched english muffins, pizza sauce, fat free mozerella chse, and veggies…put in toaster oven and voila!Good luck!I googled some low cal meal ideas and cooked those for the whole family.December 28, 2009 at 1:45 pm #65260AnonymousInactiveI LOVE WW! My faves were anything Fiber 1. The granola bars, yogurt, cereal. The added fiber makes the points lower. MAKE the WW soup! It’s free points and VERY delicious. Are you going to meetings or going online? AN AWESOME website is fatsecret.com. It’s free and you can log your points in. If you type in any commercial food (ie, progresso minestrone light soup; Wendy’s 4 oz. frosty) and it will tell you how many points. It’s really an awesome site.
December 28, 2009 at 2:24 pm #65261hellbenntKeymasterthanks guys!
I don’t know fatsecret, but I do know Dotties Weight Loss Zone…I’m not going to meetings or joining online- just trying to keep track of points, etc. I did join a long time ago and have an ‘old’ point calculator – it’s still pretty accurate- the newer one makes things a point more here and there...
December 28, 2009 at 3:34 pm #65262AnonymousInactiveHey Laura,
the dietitian of the board (me :)!) even did ww when I was getting ready for my wedding and I managed to drop 25 lbs in 6 months.. but I worked out 6 days/wk which of course gave me more points. Just some general weight loss tips that are great: Increase your lean protein intake (egg whites, turkey bacon, turkey, white meat chicken, low fat peanut butter) and make sure you have a protein everytime you eat. (this slows down the absorption of the sugar so your don’t have blood sugar spikes. Do only whole grains (anything that has 5 grams of fiber per serving is a great start) Nature’s own used to have a whole wheat double fiber bread that was good and I think it was only 1 point for 2 slices on WW. Fiber helps to slow the absorption of sugar as well and it fills you up b/c it swells in your stomach. Also if you increase your fiber please make sure you increase your water intake as well so you don’t end up constipated which happens all the time. I would say to limit your self to 30gms of carbs at breakfast 45gms at lunch and 60 grams at dinner which 15 gms at 2 snacks (if you don’t have time for snacks or aren’t hungry then add those 30 gms total to your meals)Fresh fruits and veggies are great “fillers” when you are hungry but add cheese or peanut butter for your protein if having a snack… oh and nuts are great if you can limit the portion (1/4 cup is plenty)
Okay I think I rambled enough… PM or FB me if you need any other tips. Will be out of commission as of the 1/13/10… or sooner depending. But until then I’m here if you need me.
December 28, 2009 at 4:04 pm #65264hellbenntKeymasterthanks! yeah, way back when, when I did WW, I read about the G-index, (glycemic) which I know can seem like total nonsense to a professional like you! but, it did help explain what you just did- about going for higher fiber foods and protein, etc.
my ‘main’ problem is I don’t exercise. at. all.
I was actually GOOD about it this summer, when I had all the time in the world- I walked (in the miami morning!) for an hour 5x a week…that was good. but now that I have work to go to, I don’t make time to exercise. I thought I once saw a gym somewhere where there was a touch-screen computer on the treadmills- THAT’s what I need! ROTFLMAO! to check the board, etc and be able to exercise at the same time…
no really what I NEED to do is MAKE time for it, but it’s never a priority…
I don’t want to wake up any earlier and I just don’t see how to fit it in…
but I will somehow. sigh.
my other problem is portion control, which ww points should help with….oh! & another problem, related to not exercising:
I need a shirt that says:
I am in no shape to get in shape!
arg.
but really, I feel I need to make an appt. w/ a Physical Therapist because I have horrible diastis recti (separation of the stomach muscles) and that adds to me not want to do anything, as I’m scared to make it worse- it’s a terrible cycle…so if I’m shown what to do and how, then I’ll really be on my way to no more excusesJanuary 14, 2010 at 1:54 pm #65477AnonymousInactiveHey, I’m just seeing this thread…I definitely need WW or something, and I think I have the seperation of the stomach muscles too. I didn’t know ecercising could make it worse…hmmm…there’s an excuse not to exercise!! 🙂
January 14, 2010 at 3:22 pm #65480AnonymousInactiveI’m with you also… I’m back into my “fat” wardrobe as none of my regular clothese will fit (I keep a larger sized wardrobe stashed away for when I cycle back to my biggest). So sad!
January 14, 2010 at 8:09 pm #65486hellbenntKeymasterwell my pants still fit but now they’re tight where I now have bigger ‘saddlebags’ (ugh) & my butt is bigger….yikes.
January 15, 2010 at 8:56 am #65498AnonymousInactiveI started WW a week and a half ago and so far I’ve lost 8 pounds! Woo hoo! I know a lot of that is water weight, but I don’t care! I’m STILL wearing maternity pants and several maternity shirts. I just want to be back in my regular clothes!!!!
Anyone else started a new year’s health kick? -
